far more enjoyable for me than reading 6 pages of you arguing with dilbert about the merits of acadamia. or you and rdx-fx re: value and practicality of STEM vs. humanities degrees.  Or you vs. jay about how stupid he is.  Or you vs. really anyone about anything.

i'm pretty aware of what the current list of advanced metrics captures and teases out.  I also know certain teams employ their own statistics and metrics gathering.  I'm not going to divulge what I feel isn't being accurately captured and teased out because I'm hoping I can create something that will open the door in the Halos for me to get a job in their scouting department.

It would be a cool job but they pay near slave wages

i have 2 friends that work for the Halos - one in the scouting department and one in marketing.  The one in scouting makes more than the marketing manager (who gets paid utter shit). I'd probably work 4 hours a day for free for the Halos.  It'd be a dream job.

Baseball scouting and statistical departments. They prey on the fact that it's many peoples dream job so they pay them niggardly salaries. There's no shortage of recent college grads with analytic skills willing to work for peanuts because they dream of being a GM.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble ken, I think it's important to chase your dreams. I just remember seeing one job posting for the Astros analytic department last year where they wanted college students who were required to receive college credit for the internship because it's the only way they could get away with unpaid internships. They made you pay your way to Houston, pay for your own living expenses, and work full time.

Is news of foreigners getting arrested in the Balkans popular in video games forums now that a video game developer got detained? A tourist getting jerked around by local police isn't news. It happens everywhere all the time.

I was being a bit sarcastic when I said "this is serious shit."

Police say Louisiana woman set herself ablaze

Sharmeka Moffitt made up a story about being attacked and set on fire, according to a spokesman for Louisiana's Franklin Parish sheriff's office. Spokesman Kevin Cobb told reporters this afternoon that it looks like the 20-year-old woman set herself ablaze on Sunday night. She remains in critical condition at a hospital in Shreveport, La. Police say evidence they've uncovered indicates Moffitt wrote "KKK" and a racial slur on her car. She had said she was attacked by three men wearing white hoodies. Police understandably say Moffitt and her family still deserve prayers.

ALBANY - The state's highest court says the tax man can get his share of lap dances.

The Court of Appeals, in a 4-3 decision Tuesday, said exotic stage and couch dances do not qualify as "dramatic or musical arts performances" and as such should not be exempt from sales taxes.

The justices, who were shown videos of dancers performing their routines in bikinis, ruled that if ice dancing and other forms of entertainment - including sporting events - are taxable, so too are lap dances.

The decision, which reverberated through the New York strip club industry, dealt a stinging defeat to the Albany-area jiggle joint Nite Moves, which had challenged the state Tax Department's policy following an audit and is now on the hook for up to $400,000 in unpaid taxes.

Under state law, tickets for some artistic forms of entertainment, like classical music performances, concerts and Broadway shows, are exempt from sales tax.

"Surely it was not irrational (for the state) to conclude that a club presenting performances by women gyrating on a pole to music, however artistic or athletic their practiced moves are, was also not a qualifying performance," the justices wrote in the majority decision.

The four-judge majority included female justices Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick and Victoria Graffeo.
Sounds like someone doesn't understand freedom.
In a dissenting opinion, Judge Robert Smith argued the court was being too prudish, and he drew a comparison between Hustler magazine and the New Yorker to make his point. He called lap dances "distasteful."

"Perhaps for similar reasons, I do not read Hustler magazine," wrote Smith, who was joined in his dissent by Chief Justice Jonathan Lippman and Judge Susan Read.

"I would rather read the New Yorker," Smith continued.

"I would be appalled, however, if the state were to exact from Hustler a tax that the New Yorker did not have to pay on the ground that what appears in Hustler is insufficiently "cultural or artistic." "
Damn right.

W. Andrew McCullough, a First Amendment lawyer who represented Nite Moves, said he is considering a federal lawsuit against the policy.

"I am bitterly disappointed," McCullough said, arguing that the state had no business playing art critic.

The court's decision frustrated New York's strip club industry, whose members say they pay millions of dollars in unwarranted sales taxes each year.

"For them to make the interpretation that exotic dance does not have the same artistic value or expression as other forms of dance is absolutely incorrect," said Jeff Levy, executive director of the Association of Club Executives of New York.

"I have never seen anybody fall asleep watching an exotic dance but I have seen people fall asleep at the ballet," Levy added.

Ken, you wanted clarification a while back..

America’s public schools saw a 96 percent increase in students but increased administrators and other non-teaching staff a staggering 702 percent since 1950, according to a new study of school personnel by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice....Teaching staff, in comparison, increased 252 percent.
http://www.edchoice.org/Research/Report … hools.aspx

So yeah, administrator positions make up 3/4 of the spending increases.

Or not. Pretty sure there were teachers and administrators further back than the 1950s.

I was only referring to administrators.

I bet school computer network admins have increased by about infinity% since the 1950s

Network admins aren't considered "administration" here. Administration generally refers to mid- and upper-level management.

That's valid, so they can be put into complete context. However, it would only show varying levels of excess. The point was that the spending hasn't been on students, it's been on overhead.
