The obstructionism was the reason the US credit rating was downgraded.

I don't know how anyone could think it doesn't exist or has been that way before.
Great rebuttal that one.

When Standard & Poor’s lowered the nation’s credit rating, it was in large part because of the standoff last year over the debt ceiling —which needed to be raised so the government could borrow money to pay for spending that Congress had already approved. The White House had asked Congress to simply raise the debt ceiling; Mr. Ryan and House Republicans balked at doing so without reaching a deal on significant spending cuts. The ensuing standoff took the nation to the brink of default.

In its statement explaining the downgrade, Standard & Poor’s wrote that “the political brinkmanship of recent months highlights what we see as America’s governance and policy making becoming less stable, less effective and less predictable than what we previously believed. The statutory debt ceiling and the threat of default have become political bargaining chips in the debate over fiscal policy.”
Luckily those fiscal conservatives have Americas best interests at heart though, right?

Had far more to do with the ballooning deficit that now sits above 100% of gdp. It's why moody's downgraded us too.

That goes against the statement made by S&P.

I'll take their word for it ahead of yours, thanks though.

I can't watch the debate because I'm at work but I switched to it for five seconds. In that five seconds a caught the last word of something Obama said and then Romney got up to speak. In his first sentence he said "I am not looking to cut taxes for wealthy people".

I'm confused, I thought his whole thing was that he would cut taxes for everyone.

You can be honest. Men tend to work longer hours and have less breaks in employment history -> higher pay. If you want equal pay don't have kids, sorry.

They should screen people before they ask idiotic questions. The only correct answer to someone asking a dumbass question like "what have you done to earn my vote" in a debate is to say "who the fuck are you?"

Weird that S&P didn't lay the blame solely at the feet of "those fiscal conservatives."

S&P wrote:

Republicans and Democrats have only been able to agree to relatively modest savings on discretionary spending while delegating to the Select Committee decisions on more comprehensive measures. It appears that for now, new revenues have dropped down on the menu of policy options. In addition, the plan envisions only minor policy changes on Medicare and little change in other entitlements, the containment of which we and most other independent observers regard as key to long-term fiscal sustainability.
^Shows there's enough blame to go around.
