Read the email and he's essentially threatening to Go Galt if Obama wins. Can't say I blame him.

I guess, but the dude has enough money to retire tomorrow if he wants. Why continue working if they're just going to take more and more of your earnings? I hear similar talk from a lot of my father-in-law's friends.

The obvious question is 'why would you want to continue working into your 50's if you don't have to anyway?'. I certainly wouldn't.

He didn't mention in the letter that he was close to bankruptcy and only avoided it by selling off a lot of his properties, and that the reason his company almost went bankrupt was because they would bundle all their high risk mortgages together and sell them off at the end of the year, and once banks started realizing the risk they would a) stop lending Westgate money and b) stop buying their bundled mortgage securities.  So he can pretend the government is impacting his business more than his own business practices, but that's not entirely true.  He didn't cut back on his own expenses to put more into the company - it was court ordered.

That being said, he is a frugal (read: non flashy) guy from what I've previously read about him.

The funny thing is that this intelligent hard working self made man plagiarized a chain email and tried to pass it off as his own.

Unflattering photos are part of every political campaign. Remember the tongue-poking out image of John McCain? Or the crazy-eyes images of Hillary? Or the Rick Perry sausage?

Tell you what though when it comes to creepy photos of politicians with young girls few people can beat our Prime Minister John Key.

And they are insinuating themselves into Greek law enforcement to a degree that it's getting harder to tell where the police end and Golden Dawn begins. One police officer has been caught taking part in a Golden Dawn attack on a market, where immigrant vendors were assaulted and their goods destroyed. In fact, there are reports of police outsourcing law enforcement to Golden Dawn, telling citizens who have complaints involving immigrants to take it up with the black shirts.
Is now an appropriate time to be concerned?

A man who wore a homemade T-shirt containing an offensive anti-police sentiment in the immediate aftermath of the deaths of PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes has been jailed for a total of eight months.

Barry Thew, 39, of Radcliffe, Manchester, was sentenced at Minshull Street crown court in Manchester to four months in prison, after admitting a section 4a public order offence – displaying writing or other visible representation with intention of causing harassment, alarm or distress. Thew also admitted breaching a suspended sentence imposed for a previous offence of cannabis production for which he was ordered to serve another four months concurrently.

The court heard that at 2.15pm on 18 September, less than three-and-a-half hours after the officers were killed, he was seen in Radcliffe town centre wearing a white T-shirt with the handwritten message on the front and back. He was arrested and taken into custody after complaints from outraged members of the public.

Didn't they just fight a war in Libya? I think the Nobel people are confused. Stupid Norwegians.

...and enforced austerity in Europe, kept up trade barriers to the third world...

It's just an over-politicized joke of an award these days. The committee has to go.

I mean, Obama was silly. But at least he hadn't actually done anything at the time. Which means that, y'know, nothing had actually gotten worse because of him.

Ask the Greeks (who, amongst other things, are genuinely dealing with what looks like a neofascist resurrection as Spearhead pointed out) or the Spanish what they think of it.

Al Gore was understandable.. Obama was a joke, but it was slightly funny because he'd done fuck all.. The EU is just depressing.

Really? Al Gore? The guy who wants everyone to change their life style yet he uses 10x more electricity than the average American?

I'm fairly sure the Peace Prize has been given out for stupid political reasons more than it has to honour people or organisations who have actually pursued peace or acted bravely and/or effectively to protect others in the name of peace. A lot are recognised for one piece of legislation or agreement like Henry Kissinger who was otherwise responsible for a lot of near-criminal foreign policy decisions, or taken on face value like Mother Theresa who is seen as some sort of beacon of love and charity but in reality advocated for poverty and against women's rights, received money from war criminals, and was a shameless self-promoter.

But obviously the decision to award the EU the prize this year has everything to do with the current problems. It's an attempt by the committee to say "hang on guys, lets not give up on this thing yet". Of course it goes against what many people assume the prize to be about. But really the promotion of "international friendship, disarmament, and peace meetings" is the prize's goal and over its existence the EU, as bloated, clumsy and irritable as it is, has done something towards this.

Personally I'd much rather see the prize given to someone like Malala Yousufzai.
