This isn't an indepth guide, just a post with a name that will make people realise what to do.
I realise posts have been made about it, however, no special topic on it (or that I can see anyway)

I know a lot of people are having problems with it, myself included. I downloaded the incremental patch (80Mb's worth), and had problems of:

1) Most maps loading would crash back to desktop (dragon valley in particular)
2) Server list problems (no server graphics, incorrect player counts, massive pings being displayed and the server moving when you clicked on it to a different area of the list)
3) Longer time than usual connecting to account server

Others that have been found, the grey area around the spawn selection screen, was also fixed on mine.
I didnt get a chance to check the commander screen showing your first person when zooming in/out - so some clarity on that would be useful to everyone.

However, if you are experiencing these issues, download the BF2 1.3 FULL patch - all 487MB's worth of it. I downloaded it via EA Downloader, took me 2.5hours - and its fixed all bugs which I had had previously with the Incremental one. So it was a 2.5hours well spent.
This was without uninstalling BF2, BF2SF and BF2EF or any patches - just simply installing the 1.3 Full upon it finishing downloading.
Why EA couldnt get the Incremental one correct, I dont know. Yes, it is shitty that you have to download almost 500MB to make a game work that should have worked with about 20% of that download time.
However, if you plan on fixing the bugs in your game and playing BF2 online again, get the FULL patch.
Im not guaranteeing that it will work, however, it has worked for me, and reading other topics - others have had the same sucess.
And rather than see people slate off this patch for not working, even the ones who had it in for this patch from the start, maybe they will read this and get it fixed.

If you carry out the same procedure and it works/doesnt work - post it up here. If we can keep this on topic, it may help more of the community to get back into a working game quicker.

I downloaded the incremental patch.. it produced the server browser error only for me..

Reading that the FULL patch would sort this.. i proceeded to download it and install it..
Did it work? Did it buggery..

Now working on a full reinstall.. i'll get back to you with how that goes..
its completely unacceptable if thats what you have to go to though..

righto... thats it all uninstalled..

why can't installing and patching take the whole total of 45 seconds it took to uninstall both BF2 AND BF2: SF

onto the installation.. i'll keep people posted on what works.. and ultimately where it goes wrong..



edit #1:

BF2 installed and restarted..
SF installed... and restarted again..   everything works fine.. (theres even still some 1.1 servers!)

edit #2:

Patching to 1.3 (using FULL patch)
seems to be running fine.. at least i'm getting the progress indicator this time..

na man this is my prob. When im in DV. My rank doesnt show. Its a pvt. I tryed going after AA badges and thats the best map for it. Ended up re getting the basic and ribbon. I tryed to get out of the server and rejoin nothing. I tryed to log out and log back in and get into the server. nothin. Still a Pvt. THis is the only map this does this to me that I know of.

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything.

I installed the FULL patch

whenever I try to join a server, after the map has loaded and I press the 'join' button, it crashes to desktop. Can you help me, please?

I installed the incremental patch, and my game wouldn't even load.  It would just sit at the desktop.  I then performed a complete uninstall/reinstall of both BF2/Special Forces/Euro Force, and applied the 1.3 full patch.  I am now having the issue where you click on a server for on line play, and the server moves to a different spot on the list.  You then have to track it down and click on it again, and again it will move.  After doing this about 4 times, it will finally let you highlight the server you want to join.  Also, when it highlights a server, it will show on the list how many people are on the server, but it will not display the individual names/scores on the bottom of the screen.  Also, when I try to log into EA (when you first load the game) it takes forever and a day.  I am going to try to re-install just the patch and see if it clears anything up.  If anybody has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate them.

i didnt wana start a new thread about this so im using this one wich is related.
if you have problems wiv 1.3 problems like bf2 just not loading up, serious graphic lag then the way i got rid of these problems (ull kick ur self) renstall the entire bf2 game. then patch it with the full 1.3 patch. when unistaling theres an option to delete your profiles obv u dnt wana do that so make sure the box isnt ticked

EDIT: also when i first DL the patch i gt it of some random website and it didnt work. i then got it off the EA site and thisis the working copy im running now, so to save time reDL the patch just get it of EA's site in the first place

It worked for me first go, and assumed it would for other people too. It appears that this is not the case.
The only difference between what I did, and what others have done, is that:
1) I already had BF2, SF & EF installed with the old patch on them
2) Downloaded and installed the 1.3 incremental patch, from a 3rd party website
3) Tried it ingame, found it didnt work properly
4) Downloaded and installed the 1.3 Full patch via EA Downloader

Game worked. I never uninstalled anything during the entire process. Why this should make a difference, I do not know.
One things for sure, if you've renamed bf2.exe, etc, then that maybe the culprit. Before installing any of the patches, I reverted all the movie files back to how they should be and the whole game folder to its default.
Maybe thats causing the problem when installing the patch?

But it appears as if everyone is trying different things and getting the same result :S
