Drove down Highway 1 from SF to LA last year in this exact car:

Then did a few laps around Hollywood with the top down on a Saturday arvo. Living the dream (though Hollywood is an overhyped dirty place).

Great to drive, would love to own one.

I've always seen people who buy SUVs and trucks as either dumb hicks who don't know better or misguided - thinking they're buying safety when typically they're not - and commiting themselves to huge running costs for no reason into the bargain.

SUVs aren't much/any safer for the occupants and they're far more dangerous to the average road user, its a stupid arms race which helps no-one.
Bull-bars on city 4x4s are retarded at any level.
American 'muscle cars'

Hatchbacks are fine, I may buy one of these next.

SUVs are great, you just have to watch for rollover if you have one high off the ground.
these little hatchbacks would be pretty dangerous on the road, an 18 wheeler would crush you and perhaps not even SEE it happen?
That last car has a one inch clearance off the ground. lol

Am I missing something in these safety debates?

Don't all of the cars with 5 star crash ratings pass the same test? If both the small hatchback and large SUV are granted a 5 star rating, how can you claim one is more or less safe than the other?
