Great article by Jayson Stark on ESPN regarding Chipper Jones legacy.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/84271 … pper-jones

It's truly a privilege as a baseball fan to get to see someone of Chipper's talent play during my lifetime.  Players of this caliber don't come along that often.  To accomplish what he has accomplished with one team is something worth respecting.  I got goosebumps reading this article more than once.

How did the Yankees not get an RBI right there? Bases loaded 1 out, with all the clean up hitters at bat. Do not want the yanks in a 1 game playoff

So what say you bf2s (all five of us)? Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera for MVP? Trout trounces Cabrera in WAR due to his amazing fielding ability, his ability to get on base, hit for power, steal bases etc. Trout is just a more valuable player all around imo. But... on the flip side, how can you not reward a guy that led his team to the playoffs (albeit in a weaker division and with less total wins than the Angels) and won the Triple Crown? I would personally rather have Trout on my team next year than Cabrera... Should that be the criteria? I think Cabrera will win it in the end, but if he'd missed on one of the hitting categories, and thus the nostalgia bonus, it should've been Trout in a landslide.

I think Trout is better but I think Cabrera will win the MVP. How do you not give it to someone that has done that for the first time since 67? I think it's sorta a default shoo-in for MVP. Like hitting 60+ home runs, who cares if you can't play fielding. Yes, MVP is for all-around players but sometimes you just gotta give it to the person who made the big, showy stuff instead of the well rounded person.

Did Miguel Cabrera lead his team to the playoffs?  He's got Verlander and Prince Fielder as help.  Trout has Pujols and Jared Weaver and didn't make the playoffs, but to try to pass it off like Miggy led his otherwise shitty team to the playoffs is wrong.

The term is Most Valuable Player, not Most Offensive Player.  For this reason, I personally think Trout should win because he is a more valuable all-around player (and I'm a little biased).  However, historically the award has gone to the most offensive player so I think Miggy wins.  Baseball insiders HAVE been riding Trout's dick all season, so I think it will be a very close vote.

Let's not try to downplay the significance of getting a triple crown though.  He's definitely a well-rounded offensive player, just not as solid all-around as Trout.

Cabrera definitely made the vote a lot more difficult by not being nearly as awful at third base as everyone predicted before the season began. I'd still give the edge to Trout if I had a vote, but I would actually feel bad not voting for Cabrera. It's a tough one. They both deserve it.

Baseball, as with all sports (esp N. American sports), is for entertainment and money, not for championships. With championships comes entertainment and money so that's what they'll shoot for but sadly the end-goal is not for a title, it's for more money (read: signing controversial players because they bring the media and fill seats, read: "offense more important in football") Yes there are the players/coaches/owners out there that are in it for the game but they are outnumbered.

That being said, Cabrera played stronger offense and thus will win the MVP. Trout a better all-around player? Yes, but welcome to the sports world.

i'm confident in saying that what you outlined does not factor into any voters consideration for MVP.

Seeing the Braves lose makes me sad.  Especially seeing Chipper go out like that.  Like I said earlier, a player like him doesn't come around very often.
