I thought the exact same thing, it's obviously not going to be released till at least next year and there's still not even a solid release date yet.  Not like there's a need to pre-order way ahead of time for a digital copy either, like you would have to for a physical copy to get priority of the first stock, unless they run out of keys.

I'm also annoyed that a PC-exclusive game is going for $60, fuck the gaming industry

To be fair, $50 in 2000 is $63 today, adjusted for inflation. $60 is a lot better than it could be.

Street Fighter 2 was $69 or $79 when it came out on the SNES. Adjust that.

Games like SF2 were simply so much better back then, thus the higher price.
That means, in about 1-2 years we will get awesome games like in the 1990s again, pricewise qualitywise.

When Doom was released on consoles, it had a likewise inflated price, especially considering how much more expensive it was than the PC release. They're pulling prices like these out of their ass to justify "AAA" release status. It has less to do with inflation and more to do with greed.

My dad stopped buying albums because when CD's came out, they weren't packed with nearly as many extras as vinyls. You were lucky to even get a playlist printed on the back of the title sheet. He considered it a ripoff and I have to agree.

I really enjoyed CoH and am still playing. However, I really enjoyed DoW and am still playing, but I can only tolerate the occasional Last Stand games on DoW2. Though I will likely pre-order, I'm going to wait to see what all they've done to CoH2 before taking a dive.

Also, I'm curious to see if they'll have any cool collector's boxes for it.

That's exactly why I think it's bullshit, there's no sensible justification for it, they're just doing it because MW did it first on PC and then so did everybody else.

I think the reason console games cost $10 more is some sort of licensing fee for them but obviously that's not a problem on the PC

A demo for the next Xcom game is on Steam. I wasn't expecting to see that when I went to the store page.

Not sure if you're serious. I can't think of any other larger industry that hasn't kept up with inflation in the past 12 years.

No decent mech game for years and then two come a long at once

Even though I'm an oldschool mechwarrior fan I'll still be trying both.

What are you even talking about. Games priced at $30-$70 in the 80's/90's. Games priced at $30-$70 in the 00's/10's. There's even dirt-cheap indie titles if you only feel like spending five bucks. If you want to pay more dollars, buy the collector's editions.

PC Doom - $30
Console Doom - $70

Console Street FIghter 2 - $70

Super Mario Bros 3 - $50
New Super Mario Bros Wii - $50

Atari 2600 - $200
Nintendo Wii - $200

It's arbitrary.

Come on, unnamed. Top-tier PC games were $50 with few if any exceptions between 2000 and 2010. Then that went up to $60. Guy's complaining about a game that used to be $50 now being $60, but he isn't complaining about being paid $6 for every $5 he used to be paid.

1) There are a ton of good new PC games that still come out for $50 and under, so whatever.
2) I already called it arbitrary. WTF are you arguing about?
3) There are people who have paid $200 and over for shit on Realm of the Mad God. I guess they think we can afford it. I can, but that's beside the point.

$50 + DLC's within a month or so of release.  Back in the day, you had to wait ages for new content.

Eh, I preferred the bulky expansion pack model. There wasn't as much pressure to keep up.

My major bone of contention is the lack of full game releases. I don't like the "release unfinished game with intent to patch in features that should have been included on release day" mantra that vid game developers seem to chant these days. I get that it is a bigger industry with bigger games across more platforms with deadlines and earnings projections to meet, but that doesn't mean I like it.

I'm kind of torn between that XCOM game and Dishonored.  I'll probably pay the unnecessary extra $10 and get Dishonored though

Also, the entire Total War collection from whatever came first all the way up to the Shogun 2 games, is only $32 on a Steam sale now

Soooooooooo glad I waited, I had been contemplating getting Shogun 2 at regular price this whole past week
