I don't get why they put a statue of him there in the first place, he wasn't even dead yet. If I found out UMD wanted to erect a statue to, idk, Gary Williams I'd be a little pissed that we'd be wasting our money on commemorating a coach instead of someone who's done a little more. Shit, we have a couple Nobel prize winners, let's brag about that instead.
Paterno threw a good party, that's all these kids cared about really. College football is an excuse to get drunk in the stands for the students, and when the team draws a big crowd, the parties are bigger too. I doubt they even cared about the team on the field, they just associate Paterno with good times.
