I served the army from august 1989 till february 1995. I drove an M1A1 in desert storm. I will tell you the guys that do the urban warfare deserve a whole lot of credit. I got out and served a couple of years in the reserves as an MP. We did urban training, thats a big difference than sitting behind a couple of feet of armor.

It's been great to read some of the stories and military backgrounds of some of my fellow forum members.  For those of you who are negative about revisiting this topic in my post because something similar may have been posted before, I felt it would be appropriate to post this topic especially since Memorial Day is just around the corner!

Please, keep them coming.  I enjoy reading the replies.  It helps me remember the good old days when I was a soldier, many many years ago!

Contribution from the Brit contingent - 15 years British Army (Infantry)  1RGBW. Served Northern Ireland, Bosnia (Former Yugoslavia), Cyprus, Falkland Islands (not 1982 conflict, though).  Germany.Even been to the Ukraine and played with real ex-Soviet toys!  Left 2years ago, ranked Colour Sergeant (Equivelant to Gunny, I think in the US).  Get my fix on BF2 now I can't run around with a tree on my head shootin' people anymore!

Those were the days.....

This year will be 19 years for me in the Air Force.  I am a Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist (462/2W1).  Basically a bomb loader.  We load bombs, missiles, ammo, chaff/flare on fighters, bombers and helicopters.

I myself started out loading B-52Gs, then went to F-4G Wild Weasels, F-16s and now back to testing new smart weapons on the B-1, B-2 and B-52 at Edwards AFB.

I went through the first Gulf War at RAF Fairford loading B-52s for their long missions over to Iraq.  Went through Operation Allied Force in Kosovo loading F-16 Wild Weasels taking out Serb radar.  Also spent a lot of time down in Turkey during Operation Southern Watch.

Don't have one regret serving and do it with a smile!

Doesn't matter how many subjects are out there.  I still don't mind sharing my military experience with anyone who asks.

Three years in the U.S. Army as 16-S (Sierra) A.K.A. Stinger from 1988 to 1991. I was with the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment out of Germany. Our primary mission was patrolling the borders along the former Eastern Bloc countries of Eastern Germany and Czechoslovakia (I was in Germany when the Wall came down). Also, our unit was the spearhead into Southern Iraq during the first Gulf War and were responsible for destroying the Republican Guard.

Ironically, my civilian job has taken me to Kansas where the 2nd Cav was first put into service.

4 years United States Navy serving on the USS Sampson DDG 10 and USS Kirk FF 1087. Served as an Operations Specialist. OS work in CIC (Combat Information Center) they always show inside CIC in all the Navy war movies as it is the nerve center of the ship. Had a good time visiting 15 different countries.

After I finished my time in the Navy I joined the Texas Army National Guard as an Armored crewman. Going from Tank driver on the M60 A3 to Tank Commander on the M1 A1.

Thanks to all of you that served and those still doing so!
