"Two studies indicate higher propor- tions of juvenile offenders reporting possession and use of assault rifles. The Virginia inmate survey also cov- ered 192 juvenile offenders. About 20% reported that they had pos- sessed an assault rifle and 1% said that they had carried it at the scene of a crime. In 1991, Sheley and Wright surveyed 835 serious juvenile offend- ers incarcerated in 6 facilities in 4 States. In the Sheley and Wright study, 35% of the juvenile inmates reported that they had owned a military-style automatic or semiauto- matic rifle just prior to confinement."
what you are trying to say is?
I think if you read the entire article, AR-15s are used less because criminals prefer to conceal their weapons, so handguns will be prevalent.

Hey, you know what? In the 1:1,000,000 chance that someone did try to set up a dictatorship in their lifetime, they would at least fight. You'd write a smug post on a dead video game forum mocking them, maybe you'd watch a half hour long video and then donate money to Libertard2030, but probably not.

But that's besides the point. When was the last time an AR-15 was used in a crime? They're rather hard to conceal you know, and the .223 ammo it fires is preferred by the military because the ammo is cheap, not because it has stopping power. If they wanna run around in the woods plinking targets, more power to 'em. They're not hurting anyone, but the rage they induce in people like you is uproariously funny

I guess, except they never banned any weapons, just cosmetic stuff like flash suppressors. You could buy an AR-15 any time you wanted.

Point is, people don't run down the street with rifles to hold up liquor stores, they conceal a handgun. Were there a string of robberies with M1 Garands before the AR-15 was invented? Doubt it.

they did ban weapons-  the sale of assault weapons.  anyone that had a previously purchased one could still own one.

people don't usually run around with assault rifles to commit crimes, agree.  AKs and Uzis are used sometimes though.  Not common, but used.  Regardless, this is a retarded tangent in the first place.  we can get back to debating gun control

let's have a show of hands -
who here honestly believed obama was coming for your guns? three and a half years ago, i couldn't find 9mm or .357 ammo. now sportsman's warehouse is spamming my inbox with all the sales they're having. the last three Crossroads of the West gun shows have featured more, and a bigger variety, of guns and rifles than the previous eight. it's like someone was orchestrating the hoopla and hype during the last election, and now that we're having another election, i haven't had a single problem buying or selling a rifle, handgun, or ammo.

i would like the laws to address the ability for criminals to procure guns - namely through straw purchases and stealing them from people who own guns.  I think the law should require that you store your guns behind lock and key when you are not home

I'm okay with concealed and open carry in lightly populated places like the midwest, Alaska, and some places in the south. I'm against it when it comes to cities or densely populated states like NJ.

I don't like the idea of someone 'standing their ground' in a state like NJ where there are 1200 people per square mile or like NYC where there are 27000 people per square mile.

So, you can only defend yourself with lethal force without a legal duty to retreat in states with low population densities?  That makes sense how?

A nice first step to consideration for your neighbors would be to use ammunition with ultra-low penetrative power when you "stand your ground."

You can defend yourself with lethal force as long as you do not use a firearm in a place other than your home. It's painfully obvious that is what I meant.

article, sorry

"Firearms
were identified as the murder weapon
in 600 cases.  Over 70% of the firearms used were handguns.  Of those
handguns for which the caliber and
firing action could be identified, 19%
were .38 caliber revolvers, 10% were
.22 caliber revolvers, and 9% were 9
millimeter semiautomatic pistols.
The Hawaii Department of the Attorney
General, Crime Prevention Division,
studied 59 firearm-related homicides in
Honolulu from 1988 to 1992.  Handguns were used in 48 homicides (over
80%) including 11 handguns of 9 millimeter caliber, 10 of .357 caliber, 10 of
.38 caliber, and 5 of .25 caliber."

Hence the 'control' part of it.

What are the penalties for supplying firearms to people with a criminal record?
