Do most mechanics normally offer to do a diagnostic of your suspension system to find which parts are bad for free or should I be suspicious that he's going to tell me more parts are bad than have actually really gone bad when I let him take a look at it?  I wish I knew somebody locally who just knew what to look for.

I don't know if I mentioned it here before but a guy that owed me a favor took the car to the import dealership he worked at to get it aligned and they said there were some "frozen parts" on the front end as though somebody had tried to a lowering job on it, but they weren't familiar with the suspension parts on my particular car and told me to take it to a Ford dealership.  It was likely damage leftover from when I smacked into a curb during spring break last year.

It wasn't really "offered', I asked him what it would cost to have just a diagnosis done and he said it was free for that.

Does he seem trustworthy?

If so have him check it out, show, and explain the problem(s) to you.
Take it from there.

Yeah the thing is he took it upon himself to charge my friend another $80 to replace the 2nd accessory belt at the last minute on top of the $240 he was already paying to have a valve cover gasket and the first belt replaced on his late 90s Nissan Sentra.  $26 for the belt he said and the other $54 for labor, that seems kind of steep to me just to install a belt but what would I know about labor charges anyway

I could figure out the job or get somebody else to do it for me, but I need to know what exactly is wrong and I wouldn't know where to start when checking alignment parts unless something is blatantly out of shape or making noise, neither of which is the case.  It's still gotta be something serious though if they couldn't completely do the alignment and it ate through the inner wall of my front left tire until it went flat almost a year ago.

I'm almost certain that's got something to do with tie rod ends from what I've been able to learn already, and those are affordable enough.  I'm most worried about the right lower control arm being bent at $75-150 a piece but I think it would be a hell of a lot worse at steering if that were the case and I think it would be blatantly obvious because the wheel would be recessed in the well.

take it to an independent alignment/repair shop and tell them you want to find out what's wrong and tell them you want to see.  the initial inspection should take one hour at most.  and be sure to tell them you bounced it off a curb.

Will the inspection likely be free at one of those places too?

I know it sounds dumb to be asking about money when preparing to throw it at suspension parts(with possible installations fees) and then alignment, but this will save me from having to prematurely replace another set of front tires if I can get it all done within the budget.  Plus I'd like to finally know what it's like for the car to just drive straight, it hasn't been completely and fully aligned since I've had it as far as I can tell.

I hope not (a guy's gotta make a living, even a lowly mechanic) but they may give you a break if you have them do the repair work.  depending on what's screwed up it could cost you between $80 and holy shitfuck.  Do you have stock wheels and tires on there?  even with worn inner and/or outer tie rods ends you shouldn't be having rubbing issues.  something may be a little or a lot bent...or loose...or seized.

This sounds like it's gonna get too expensive, I only have $160 to spend on this and if a shop does anything other than aligning it, I think I'm gonna end up spending too much on labor even if I can get the parts for cheap.  I wish it was easier stuff to do a diagnostic on and replace by myself like I did with the intake manifold

I do everything myself except for alignments and wheel balances because the machines are so expensive. It really isn't hard to see when a bushing is worn out or even missing. Jack up your ride and have a looksie for yourself.

I replaced shocks/struts, ball joints, tie rod ends, stabilizer bar bushings and rear endlinks in my car. (basically the entire suspension)
