Fuck you spain.
But:
Ronaldo wanted the last goal and the win and all the glory... and it cost the country a possible win.

or he wanted to take the pressure of the last penalty because that can be everything

nah i don't buy that. you know full well someone generally makes a mistake, so you want to get your 'guaranteed' goals in as soon as possible so you can capitalise on someone missing/being saved.

or he's used to handling the pressure better than most others in the squad like Terry tried to do in the CL final 2008

but so what. you know he probably should score, by taking the gamble that you'll actually get all your shots you risk him not even having a chance.

No one's gonna let all your defenders take penalties ahead of you unless you're waiting for the glory penalty
Which is why he has that sour grin on his face watching Fabregas celebrate

we're not talking about that are we?
i doubt anybody would say Ronaldo going last is a sensible decision

I don't see why it makes any difference what order your top 5 are in.

Of course it does, as perfectly illustrated in last nights game...

if you put someone not amazing first/2nd/3rd and they miss, you can lose the chance for one of your better players to take a penalty. this is what happened with ronaldo last night

And if you put them third, fourth or fifth and they miss it doesn't matter if one of your better players got to take a penalty or not.
If you put a guaranteed miss last (let's say for this argument you KNOW they're going to miss and you have to have them go in one of the spots) then there's a chance they wouldn't have to go at all. If any of the other teams shots miss or gets blocked they won't go because it will be unnecessary. That's why you want sure makes to go first.

Change Ronaldos position with one of the people who missed.
Result... They still LOSE, its just 4:3 instead of 4:2.
It makes ZERO mathematical difference what order your first 5 strikers go in.

Well first off, if it's guaranteed that more people on your team are going to miss, you're right, it doesn't matter the order. That's simple math.
The thing is, Ronaldo is a goal-scorer, meaning he's much more likely to get a PK than a defense-man. So if you put him in (again let's say for the case of the argument that he makes 100% of his PK's) you have a definite goal. You may as well put in definite goal scorers at the beginning to get definite goals and put your 'maybes' at the end.
The reason it would have made a difference yesterday is because Port had one more PK to take but it didn't matter because no matter the outcome of that shot, they would have still lost. IF Ronaldo had gone AND he scored in place of someone who hadn't they would have had a chance to tie with the last shot (which they never took yesterday because it didn't matter). Granted, if someone still missed it would be 4-3 but this goes back to my first point that if it's guaranteed more people are going to miss from your team then it's all moot.

Your logic is insane, in fact it's not even logic.pirana6 wrote:

Best of 5 is best if 5, no matter how you do it. Making the first 3 then missing the last 2 is exactly the same as missing the first 2 and getting the last 3, its still 3/5 which no matter how you spin it, still loses to 4/5.
All these 'ifs and buts' means nothing, fact is Portugal missed 2 and Spain missed 1. Game over.
So yes, with the hindsight of that game when we know FOR SURE two people are going to miss, Ronaldo at the end or beginning was moot. I'm talking about 'in general' shoot-outs, not specific ones from the past when we already know the outcome. If it's guaranteed that more people on your team are going to miss, you're right, it doesn't matter the order.
It Does Not Matter!!!
Alright, we're just going to have to agree to disagree then...
