Nowadays suits are designed with this in mind and when the bottom button is buttoned the fit looks odd. See where theres a sort of fold or pinch in you jacket roughly at the height of you elbows? One should never button the bottom button of anything. Be it a suit, casual blazer, waistcoat/vest or cardigan.
Happens to almost everyone their first time though. These days the button is mostly used to indicate if you're wearing a suit for the first time
