you randomly spawn in the debug forest/plains and it's really hard to get out of them. you can spawn up to four hours away from the actual playable area.

losing stuff to backpacks and inventory happens when you haven't got space for whatever you're trying to put in it. There's an art to it and you'll get the hang of it eventually

Yeah, I've looked up sizes and shit on the wiki, so I think it's just about not being too greedy with certain things.

I'm collecting tents, too. Ever since my first find, I've found two pretty easily.

E: Also, debug spawn gets fixed Monday, as well as a fair few other things:

* [FIXED]    Object cleanup causing significant (huge) performance issue on servers (reduced by up to 50%, means more players + zombies possible)

That would be reasonable if I had in some way caused you to lose your shit directly. The debug plain shit could have happened the next time you logged off anyway.

Was in Elektro since I made a new guy cuz I was fucked on my old one. Stumbled upon a gigantic pile of loot. Like, 2 makarovs, 15 mags, 3 flashlights, 30+ tin cans, and a plethora of other shit. Was cruising around with some dude until he shot me. I had only passed out though. He looted my body, when I woke I still had my makarov and magazines. Found his ass in the same building and put 8 rounds of justice into him. Fuck that cunt.

What is the appeal of this game?

Because as far as I can work out it's just to wonder around aimlessly collecting worthless shit until you meet some random who shoots you in the back and takes your shit. To me its just sounds like a mod made for trolls and griefers.
