that was implied.
they say "death to America", we say "you first"
they DO death to America, we do 'you first'
Then we try real hard not to let "Nigeria on the Potomac" (Washington D.C.) screw everything up...

Uh huh, and if you have legions of teenage virgins running up and down hills shouting "kill all teh mooslums", or your news stations calling for foreign nationals to be summarily executed for looking at white folks funny or nations to be vapourised (Fox any time of the day or night) because Israel finds them annoying don't be surprised if the Arab world says "maybe we'll fuck you back".rdx-fx wrote:

Really, America has been messing with the ME and killing people there for decades, they retaliate once and they're the bad guys
That would be about a zillion times more productive, but as you say, never going to happen. No, introspective navel-gazing, and asking "why? why do they hate us?! <cry>" isn't really something our politicians and CEOs are aware of as an option.

I think its the foreign policy I find most annoying, and fatness.
Apart from that I'm not too bothered.

Not really, I mean, if you punch somebody in the arm for a few decades, they'll probably want to kick you in the nuts.rdx-fx wrote:

Yes they should be executed. I believe that anybody that plays a part of ending another's right to life, revokes their basic right to life in the process. Therefore they merit death.
Electrical chair, hanging, and lethal injection executions are shitty. Tie 'em to a post and execute those motherfuckers with bolt actions and firing squads.
But yeah I guess you just felt like another half hearted attempt at trolling because you're bored, so no worries.

but when you come down to it, you are still just killing people.
What makes one version of killing people any different to ANY other version of killing people? I'm sure everyone that kills someone feels justified in doing it, but you're still killing people. Self defence might be the only one that can be excluded, but neither of the 2 above scenarios are that.
is basically the point im getting at.
e: oh and I should point out I'm not arguing on whether being in the military is good or bad, just that shifty's statement of "I believe that anybody that plays a part of ending another's right to life, revokes their basic right to life in the process. Therefore they merit death." is wrong
Killing isn't always an evil act. You seem to assume it is so let me put this into perspective for you. The difference between the two examples you've given us is pretty clear. On the one hand you have some religious zealot killing thousands of infidels (who are just people who don't believe in the same violent imaginary god as you), and on the other you have men enlisting to go kill the men responsible for these acts. One is murder, one is a version of self-defense.
There is no way you can possibly justify killing people for religious purposes. If your religion tells you to kill infidels then you are a fucked up piece of shit believe in a violent and stupid religion. The crusades, the inquisition, various muslim conquests, etc. All of that is fucked up crap and is NO excuse for killing people. I don't care what your beliefs are.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.
Lot's of conjecture, but that is understandable, because who here have actually witnessed the aftermath of genocide?
I believe 9-11 was a heinous war crime and perhaps the opening act of a genocide/population reduction scheme, but the perpetrators remain unknown and unaccountable.
I have dear friends who have machete scars and some who spent time in prison for inflicting them because of people being pushed into conflict by interlopers.
War is hell. 9/11 started a war, We The People just haven't started fighting back yet. -

America has been killing them, directly or by various proxies, for decades.
They turn round and try giving you one solid kick to the balls to discourage you.
Except you're retaliating against their retaliation - perpetuating the cycle your country started.and on the other you have men enlisting to go kill the men responsible for these acts. One is murder, one is a version of self-defense
At least we know why you're enlisting, you're just as much a zealot as any madrassah educated islamic

Its the same age old conflict. Christians killing muslims and vice versa. Except the holy land is any place that had liquid gold.

That's not their (I suppose you're referring to AQ) goal/reasoning. Read the 1996 fatwa (and the ones following that).Dilbert_X wrote:

Besides this point I fail to see how that justifies anything, really.

Western involvement in the ME (spearheaded by the US) was necessitated by the cold war. AQ was formed because of resentment for this involvement + a dose of religious fanaticism.
Both sides are understandable. Considering AQ's position, their tactics are understandable as well. Though what it comes down to is that they decided to try and destroy (your) western culture. That leaves you in no position but to respond (with force).

All well and good, but lets look at it this way. The people who are responsible for killing thousands of people probably killed themselves in the process. Millions have been killed by soldiers fighting over there. The majority of the people planting roadside bombs and shooting at our soldiers now weren't even part of the taliban when the war began, us being there has caused it.-Sh1fty- wrote:

It is not a version of self defence. I version of self defence might go so far as to launch missiles at the planes heading into the towers. Sending armies to INVADE another country is not self defence. Nor is it a version. The people who have since joined the taliban have more a claim to self defence than any volunteer soldier, in an invading army, in a foreign country will ever have.
Also I had a little giggle with the highlighted point, what with all the irony it came from you
There we agree, but swap out religion for patriotism (they both attract the same sort of people) and you have THE EXACT SAME FANATICISM.There is no way you can possibly justify killing people for religious purposes.
