You can view it live here - http://www.uq.edu.au/transit-of-venus/

Best times for viewing are at the start and end. Obviously it's started now. It ends in 2 hours 57 minutes.

The start of the egress (Venus "leaving" the Sun) starts in just under two hours.

This needs a serious AU-only disclaimer. I just watched the sun descend beneath the clouds on the horizon, and I don't think it is going to resurface before the transit is over.

(It's an amazing spectacle though; if you have the opportunity to see it in person, you really ought to.)

Or you click the link and view it far better than you can anywhere here (unless you have access to a great telescope).

Wanted to see it but weather is overcast. Storms and the like. Oh well, bring on 2117.

It's a lot more meaningful witnessing it with your own eyes.

Again it rained and again I couldn't see it because there was too much between me and the horizon.

This place officially sucks for watching anything in space.

Some idiot made a connection between the transit and huge historical events in the past. Venus' transit doesn't do shit, I can't believe people are dumb enough to believe it would effect us.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.

So you don't believe in astrology, that's a step in the right direction.
historically the transit of venus helped scientists figure out the size of the solar system

The crap I heard was this:

In the 1630s, when the first scientific observation of it occurred, Galileo's theories were advancing a new world view. In the 1760s, the event foreshadowed a period of military activity in Europe and America, astrologers say. Near the end of the 19th century, the transit coincided with a host of technological leaps, including the telephone and light bulb.

What a load of horse shit.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.

I'm sure it's all true.
In the 21st Century in coincided with the end of the Mayan Calendar, and the biggest financial meltdown in history

Yeah cause it's not like every decade has something eventful happen.

That's because Venus transits the sun nearly every decade
