this would be moderately interesting if anyone ever made a decent game using this engine
as it stands right now all it's good for is high-res screenshots for people that are more interested in buying 3 graphics cards rather than playing a good game

Hah yeah it's a damn shame. Really impressive though.
i still remember how excited i got when i saw the cryengine demo pre-crysis, for the new dx10 generation. i thought gaming was going to enter a whole new golden age of awesome. all we got in the end was a short single-player campaign that had a few visually impressive moments, and a slew of multiplayer titles that overloaded on slow, bulky graphics and lacked any real substance. the result? entire gaming communities with £1500 computers playing browser-based quake live that runs on onboard graphics.
gaming-tech industry going this way --->
computer gaming industry going that way <---
i still vastly prefer dx9 games that keep the visual distraction to a minimum. bf3's lighting/shadow effects are nothing but impairment.

Amen. I miss good and interesting stories. Good graphics are yay, but they're not enough if the story is completely Uwe Boll. I'm getting older and slower and I don't always want a new candy covered actionsupersonicshooter. I want to be entertained with something interesting too. For example Fahrenheit was very interesting, altho the arrow sequenses caused a few ragequits here and there. More good stories! More good stories! *shakes fist*Uzique wrote:

Willow would look awesome with this engine.
What an age we live in.
Bring back gameplay, screw the graphics.

But that was like ages ago, nor was it really cutting edge graphics. My PC would play it.

the problem with all the new pretty-graphics high-technology game engines is that their fundamental movement/shooting aspects suck dick.
i blame physics engines and movement that feels as if you are actually walking around with an 8-man tent on your back.
bring back quake and low grav tbh

Far Cry 2 looked pretty.
Gameplay made me shudder.
