the youngest person killed in this massacre was, what? 14-15? "brainwashing"? hardly. these are proactive people with a high sense of civic pride and citizenship. they wanted to take part in voluntary summer camps to perhaps boost their own interest in politics/public service and to have fun with other driven, positive young people. "brainwashing"? i don't really see where brainwashing comes into it. the only other person that views the summer camp as a brainwashing exercise is... breivik himself. keeping some good company there, mr. super-intellectual jay.

compared to the hundreds of schools, camps and weekend activities hosted in america in the name of political partisanship or religious instruction... i'd say you have a fairly gargantuan issue to deal with in your home country, before you start implying that 77 innocent teenagers were somehow 'guilty' or 'in the wrong' just for being at a summer camp. you idiot.
I'm not saying the kids were guilty at all. That wasn't the intent of my post. I'm just saying that if anything remotely positive comes out of this event it should be these Norwegian indoctrination camps being placed in the international spotlight and them saying 'hey, maybe these aren't such a great idea after all'. I don't blame the kids, I blame the politicians setting the bullshit up in the first place.
lol norwegian indoctrination camps in the spotlight. my god you are stupid.

Perhaps these young adults should have just stayed at home, and reached middle age and then vented their disaffection with politics via the internet.

pretty stupid of you to berate another country for doing it when it's happening on your doorstep.

pretty sickening to link it in any way to a massacre.
Florida might as well be Norway for all it impacts me. You Euros really don't get how state and geographic region-centric we are here. Florida != New York.

yeah and summer citizenship camps != indoctrination camps either in europe.

perhaps you should respect the cross-atlantic, continental cultural divide, and stop being so idiotic about these camps?

So you'd be ok with the BNP hosting youth camps?

I guess I'm the only one that equates this shit with Hitlerjugend.

So you're ok with political parties throwing summer camps for future voters then. No big deal. Fine. Over here we try to keep our schools and other crap as separated from religion as we do from politics. Secularization and all that.

It has nothing to do with Schooling.
These young people are obviously interested in politics and contributing to their society as a whole, or even as a ulterior personal motivation of "getting ahead". Disgusting behaviour!!!

Politics and children do not mix. Why is this such a difficult point to get across? They become easily manipulated fanatics dangling on the strings of old men.

okay jay let's break this down for your magnificent intellect to digest:

a) they were not children. most of them were young adults. the few young people were in their mid-teens. they are not being indoctrinated as 6-7 year old hitler jugend. you don't know what you're talking about here.

b) it's a summer camp for goody two-shoes kids. middle-class kids that want to do something productive with their summer. a civics camp. encouraging citizenship. they're not all there chanting the party slogan and worshipping portraits of the current prime minister. they are there to do community work and to generally take part in their wider community and feel belonging, integration, compassion for their citizens. it is a positive and good thing, no matter which way you look at it. also of course it's great for the resumes of any young kids that are intending to have a career in politics or journalism or any public office. it's a way of 'taking part'. it's not some socialist dogma camp.

c) you are wrong. please go do some reading before you spout your mouth. it's horrifically insensitive considering you are talking about 77 dead kids here who were just trying to do something positive and community-minded with their summer vacation.

Most of them are in their mid to late teens/early 20's. Hardly children, by that age I definitely had formed the basis of my political opinions, although I have never been overly interested in politics and nor has my family. Undoubtedly some of them will have been "pushed" into it by their parents, but I'm willing to bet that a fair proportion of them will have been their on their own initiative due to their own interest and passion for politics, and a desire and believe they can make a difference. the summer camp is being organised and run by glenn beck, no? he lives in the north east and ny area, no?

i'm guessing it's in florida because it's a 'summer' camp. the tea-party is hardly an alien force in the north-east, is it?

although that was a shit excuse in the first place. following up an even shitter argument.
