the only reason people cared in the first place is because it complimented all the pop-psychology and pseudo-philosophy at the time. it was a (terribly written and entirely transparent) novel of finger-wagging and overt political explication. it basically massaged the balls of the establishment at the time and was hip-cool and shocking enough to enthrall a generation of young readers. objectivism is a total hack philosophy and hasn't really added anything to the general discourses of intellectual thought, other than a nice paper-weight for tea party members (who probably haven't read it)Pochsy wrote:

Oh, and there are a few valid points buried in there too.
Good insights, good observations, horribly extrapolated - that is Ayn Rand's motif.
The same points are covered better in the first half of The Fountainhead.
If you put that book down right before the rape scene (about half way), it is a good book about finding a balance between individuality, integrity, and fitting into society.
In other words, a book for the high-school and college aged.
