i worked at a supermarket for a while, other than that nothing since y'know i don't have a degree yet lol. my friend (he's a year ahead of me) only has experience working at a restaurant and now he's got a co-op offer from Johnson & Johnson so i don't think it's lack of experience that's hurting me

No one here has a job that's related in any way to their (uni)study until they're about to do their BA, or finished it. Up until that point (so the first 3-4 years) everyone does a thing called student jobs. So supermarkets, stores and the most popular one: bars.
Don't go looking for a job in your field just yet and stick with something that you know you can get. Making extra money during the sumer is always a good thing.
Plus, working in a supermarket attracts bitches like shit attracts flies.
