Inciting racial hatred should certainly be against the law and the crap he was saying I'm glad he got fucked over - I think the sentencing is a little harsh, but it simply reflects the public reaction to it. We don't have freedom of speech in the UK. We have freedom of expression and freedom of the press which are what is important. You can also say anything you like, provided you can demonstrate it is true.
People in the US would probably publicly distance themselves from this guy, and maybe publicly shun him. There's no case for libel here AT ALL. Also libel laws in the US are weaker for public figures like Muamba
