They were going to get junked/salvaged.  So yeah.  New policy in place now.  Everything has to be accounted for, even those getting thrown away.

that was probably awesome while it lasted. I had a buddy who worked at an old tech place and whenever they got rid of something they would just throw it in the dumpster out back. He would go at night and take it and sell it. May some good skrilla and helped pay for some college. Not exactly legal but I don't think his company was complaining cause he never took it unless it had already been thrown out.

Bought two bits of kit today.

Firstly a Cooler master HAF 912 plus case to replace my ageing thing.

HAF912

And secondly a Antec KUHLER H2O 920 Liquid Cooling System to replace the noisy aircraft prop that's currently cooling down my AMD FX 8150

H20920

Rather sportingly about 2 weeks after l installed the processor AMD decided to sell them with a liquid cooler instead of a fan....... Gits!

Fixed the link, cheers for that!

Three of these, albeit refurbished.

20" LG LCD Monitor (L200ME-BF)

1600x1200 (4:3) IPS

Might get two more if they turn out great.  Five-way, 90-degree rotated.

I currently have 2 monitors, 1 24" and a 19", though 3 24" would be mint.

We are moving our old data center to a brand spanking new one, and it's a gold mine if you're fast enough We have a shitload of old Rittal racks going to the junk yard. Man, I hope I already had that house with a proper garage. I would fill a wall with them for storage use since they have locks on them.

Yeah, the racks are sweet.   Insanely heavy duty.   Defiinitely would make great garage racks.

Our lease is out by the end of the year.  Corporate office will be moving to a new building.  That includes the datacenter.  Sad that I can't "loot" anymore.

Building my brother another computer, because he's using his other one at work now (architecture firm).

i5 2500k
ASRock Z68 USB3
8GB G Skill
Gigabyte 1GB HD6870 Overclock Edition (only 6870 they had left)
Windown 7 HP
Samsung DVD drive
Seagate 1TB Barracuda
Antec Neo Eco 520W
Sharkoon T28 Case

Should be good enough for the CAD he needs to do at home and some gaming. Nice of him to pay this time lol, and it only cost $900 which is pretty bloody good for ozland.

Wouldnt you want an nVidia card so he could use CUDA for CAD?

From all the benchmarks and tests I've seen CUDA makes very little difference in performance in CAD programs on consumer level cards.

If we were comparing high-end Quadro and Firepro cards then individual features (eg CUDA) would be important. However, to get a workstation card that would actually be worth getting I would be looking at a minimum of $400+ dollars. Something like a HD6870 (or nvidia equivalent) gives him enough power for the limited CAD he will be doing at home, as well as gaming. So then the decision was simply best card for the best price. From what i've seen there would be basically no difference between a HD6870 and GTX560 for example, as the gaming cards are more restricted by their drivers in CAD application, rather than hardware or specific features.

E: thats just from my understanding, I haven't used CAD since high school.

I've been eying up this exact computer and specs for about a month now. How in the hell did you get it so cheap?
