You don't see anything wrong with our healthcare system? We pay more per capita than most industrialized countries. Lots of people go bankrupt from hospital bills. Even those with health insurance. Ignoring those problems isn't going to make them go away. Or maybe you just don't see that as a problem. I'm not saying mandated, federally controlled health plans is the solution, but to pretend like the healthcare system as it stands is perfect seems a bit weird.

I never said it was perfect, I just don't believe that having politicians inflict their ideas upon the rest of us is a good alternative to what we have right now. A small percentage of the country goes bankrupt, yes, but it is a very small percentage. Do you replace the entire car if you have one tire that leaks air once in a while?

I don't have a problem with for-profit medicine at all. People spend a lot of time going to medical school, and hospitals invest billions of dollars in equipment. They should be able to charge whatever they can get away with.

Why would you not want free health care? It is covered (barely in the UK) by Tax levies. Everyone that works pays for the NHS because at some point you are going to need it to varying degrees. How much does an average policy cost in the US?The system is not perfect & no free health care ever will be. Is the reason that some don't like the idea is because you feel you are paying for the lazy & feckless?

In the US you have the opportunity to try to straighten out the free health care because you are starting from a blank canvas almost. We have private health insurance here in the UK for those that can afford it because it does speed up the process, the waiting list for a minor op say a tonsillectomy is 6 months on the NHS on private you can get it done in a few weeks. The system works because everyone in the UK has a right to free health care. It is in our countries mind set that everyone pays toward the NHS because you will at some point need it.

She was covered under Maryland's health insurance plan, then she moved to DC into a cheaper house and obviously was no longer covered under MD's health insurance.
