Depends on Kennedy.

Because you honestly equate progress with progressivism. Forward thinking, progress, they're words designed to make anything excluded seem backwards and quaint. They're the highest form of snobbery.

I'm sorry, but I don't view the expansion of government as progress, I view it as regression.

How about we address some of the legal implications?

The government claims that everyone participates in the healthcare market, and healthcare is interstate commerce, thus they have the power over it via the interstate commerce clause.
Then, there is the business of the penalty being a tax for the purposes of Constitutional power, but not a tax for just about any other reason...

Insurance companies make a profit, yes? They make a profit on ~$300 per person/per month. $3600 per year. So save $5000 a year (nice little 40% buffer) for medical care and you magically don't need health insurance. Amazing. It really is that simple, and inexpensive.
Of course, you're never going to be sicker than $5k/yr.
Yes, because at the end of every year you should spend the remainder frivolously. Stop being retarded.
Say that again when you are over 60.

For example: the amountof 100% medical paid dialysis business here is insane.  Wait until you get cataract to get free Lasik.

Just saying though.  I don't mind paying more to get in front of the line for care.

All the money you put away for health care is going to get raped by inflation. Especially if you manage to make it to 60.

Yes, because as well as spending it frivolously at the end of every year, the remainder will be buried in my back yard until it is needed.

imo being against health care for all is just greed

I met a guy in Az that was in a car crash at 19, didn't have insurance and is still in about $20000 debt at 21. Adding an extra debt at that age without having any sort of qualification or investment to show for it is ridiculous.

So you are going to gamble your health care emergency money on the stock market? Savings accounts don't pay out enough to keep up with inflation let alone make some sort of profit.

There are other options besides the stock market. Bond markets are stable. Other forms of investment are relatively stable. The stock market itself is stable over time. Fluctuations are temporary.

Principle     $5,000.00
Interest    8%
Year
1     $46,586.37
2     $43,135.53
3     $39,940.31
4     $36,981.77
5     $34,242.38
6     $31,705.90
7     $29,357.32
8     $27,182.70
9     $25,169.17
10     $23,304.79
11     $21,578.51
12     $19,980.10
13     $18,500.09
14     $17,129.71
15     $15,860.85
16     $14,685.97
17     $13,598.12
18     $12,590.85
19     $11,658.19
20     $10,794.62
21     $9,995.02
22     $9,254.65
23     $8,569.12
24     $7,934.37
25     $7,346.64
26     $6,802.44
27     $6,298.56
28     $5,832.00
29     $5,400.00
30     $5,000.00
Sum     $566,416.06

Here, with a modest 8% return and a 30 year period is what you could expect to see. What you see at Year 1 is what your $5,000 annual investment would look like after the 30th year.

Again, insurance companies make a profit with relatively low premiums. Is there a chance that you could turn into one of the outliers that has ridiculously high health care costs at some point in your life? Yes, but the odds are overwhelmingly against it.

Edit - "Zomg 8% is high!" I'm at 86.21% return since I began investing a little less than two years ago and I do not day trade.

Just for Shits & Giggles, I extrapolated that 43.11% RoR on the same spreadsheet:

Principle     $5,000.00
Interest    43%

4     $55,717,935.01
5     $38,935,002.28
6     $27,207,296.94
7     $19,012,121.82
8     $13,285,435.05
9     $9,283,697.32
10     $6,487,332.60
11     $4,533,267.60
12     $3,167,791.20
13     $2,213,613.22
14     $1,546,845.48

16     $755,331.01
17     $527,815.95
18     $368,831.24
19     $257,734.70
20     $180,101.81
21     $125,852.91
22     $87,944.46
23     $61,454.50
24     $42,943.64
25     $30,008.48
26     $20,969.56
27     $14,653.27
28     $10,239.52
29     $7,155.25
30     $5,000.00
Sum     $542,097,372.50

I wish

Okay, so you would gamble your emergency money away on the stock market. Just making sure.

My grandparents were popping pills like no-bodies business before they died. Must have cost the NHS a shit load. At some point, unless you die suddenly, you WILL have high health care costs.

Please explain why our system is wrong just because it's different?

Y'all in the rest of the world spend an inordinate amount of time trying to tell Americans that they're wrong because they don't conform to your cultural norms. You make a big deal about imperial standard units vs metric, farenheit vs celcius, driving on a certain side of the road, having enough socialism in our government. Worry about your own shit, like the fact that your military is full of overweight alcoholics, thanks.
