nVidia has a Windows 8 section for x86 and x64 now for drivers, though I couldn't get it to load, probably because I always have an issue loading their pages with all the new flash crap they added to it.

But in any case, I think you can play games on this build, I can't wait to see some benchmarks

No, that's that Metro shit for tablets and I guess laptops too if you're so fucked up in the head that you don't prefer the regular desktop UI.  I'm pretty sure there's a way to get to the regular desktop, one of the developers showed it happening in a Youtube video.  It defaults to Metro because that's what would work immediately on a touchscreen although I would think they would've included the option to select which one you want during the installation

O.K. so according to twakguides.com

AMD has just released its Catalyst drivers here:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa … ivers.aspx

And nVidia has had a Windows 8 version of its 295.73 drivers since last week so anybody wanting to try it should be good to go on either hardware.

I didn't know there was actually a WDDM 1.2 until I read that Catalyst driver page

Windows 8 is a hunk of anus.

It has some nice features...

Like the transfer speed graphs on copying / moving, and the heat maps on the task manager, and the animated style of some sections of the task manager.

However, the whole OS seems to be conflicting in it's UI. What do I mean by this... You're welcomed to a single coloured login and setup, true to the style of what has become known as the metro look. However once you're using the system, the only actual attribute that continues along with this style is the start menu. A full screen application that is poorly designed to say the least.

They've made explorer more complicated with a ribbon, all the buttons being the windows vista style look of gradient'd images, which conflicts heavily with the minimalist style of metro.

When you open an application through the start menu, it's almost always a full screen application. From this point you can never exit the program, and the only way I have worked out how is to either alt+F4, or hit the windows key, which doesn't actually exit the program, simply push it to the background.

I will never use windows 8. And if windows 9 follows much of the similar attributes as 8, I think windows 7 will be used for a longer duration than the likes of XP. Or perhaps a mass push will be moved towards the apple consumer, or even linux alternatives such as Ubuntu, however with the bloat that is lion and the aids that is Unity, I fear for the future of consumer user interfaces.

For the start menu application stuff, I think it expects you to do the swipe thing as though it were a touch-screen.

This really sucks from what you guys are saying.  I was really looking forward to Windows 8 and I had a bad feeling about them trying to make it tablet-compatible from the beginning when it's already primarily supposed to be a desktop OS.  I knew they weren't going to be able to pull this off without forcing the Metro shit down everybody's throat, everybody else was afraid of it too, but it sounds like they fucked up the UI even worse than I thought they would.  Why would they be ADDING the ribbon to anything, I thought they learned how much people absolutely hated it with Office 2007, how is there any advantage to it other than doing away with what only they would consider "clutter", meaning important and already conveniently placed and un-intrusive buttons, just to say they'd made a change to explorer and pretend that it was actually a positive/needed one.  It didn't even need fucking with, anything that had ever been wrong with explorer was corrected by Windows 7

Hopefully if enough people bitch about this, they'll implement a proper way to turn off the Metro shit entirely and you can just use it exactly like W7 with all the W8 advantages except for the dumbass ribbon

Im sticking to win 7, never gave me a problem.

also to close an app you need to grab it from the top and drag it down to the bottom of the desktop. (this is with the mouse)

Holy fuck that's just an unneeded faff.

Methinks they looked at apple and thought "hmm, yeah! We'll do that!"

I remember that was one terrible thing about the dev preview.

Installs on VMware Player. I'll have to play around with it a little bit more before I can say anything really. So far I'm just confused. Where did everything go?
