Ugh why does my business school hiring website make you pick an "industry preference" and a "job function preference"? I'm open to several industries and job functions, it's not like I'm majoring in "Federal Government Applications/System Analyst."

So search several industry preferences then. Sounds like you can't query multiple preferences at the same time? Yeah that sucks

Nah, I found a way to put in multiple preferences. It's more for the profile that employers see, rather than the job search function.

Doesn't matter since most of this shit is for rising seniors. I could do an unpaid internship at a corporation that, from my understanding, is a government contractor AKA they probably make tons of money

Those suggested minimums normally mean that below that average you 'need not apply'. The actual competitive GPA will be much much higher. 3.9 GPA here and I barely got an interview for my summer position (I got it because another guy declined).

Hardly. There's shit-tonnes of students with better GPAs than me at this school. I wouldn't even be considered for a masters at an Ivy League or Oxbridge university, despite my school ranking in the top 30 in the world. It's 4.0 or bust in the elite academic world, really.

It's not hard to come out the other end with a degree. The problem arises when you plan to move to a graduate program at a top university. You really have to be the absolute best in your graduating year for your subject.

I think I kinda hurt my chances of getting into university based on the courses I didn't take in grade 12. I didn't take calculus/vectors, physics, chem, or bio. Most degrees require 6 U level courses I think.

Edit: not that I had planned on going to Uni, but it looks like it may be the best idea now before I get a job.

Yeah, it's 6 U levels. English and Calculus are really the only 2 required courses for most programs. English for every. single. one. Calculus for anything to even remotely do with math. Everything else is optional.

But with a diploma you would forgo those requirements, no? And they'd likely give you credits towards a degree to start (perhaps a year's worth).

I think I may have been looking at the high school and not post-grad reqs

Based on this:
Graduates of a two-year diploma program who present a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. will be considered for admission with advanced standing to a maximum of 5.0 credits (equivalent to one year). The advanced standing would be granted according to the appropriateness of the diploma program, the admission requirements of the degree program, and the achievement in relevant courses.
I should be able to get a year's worth of credits.

I really should take some kind of calculus and/or physics classes first though.

No, but the same standards generally apply for most worth-while summer jobs. I'm just saying you can't even get cocky with a 3.9 and expect to get a job just because you exceed the minimum requirements.

Good luck, though. The GPA and resume really just get you to the interview. The real work is in your social and bullshitting skills.
