I've been playing with those guided rockets for a a few days now. I'm hitting tanks across the map from the Russian base on Firestorm to the American one and destroying the tank with the second salvo. This is ridiculously awesome and very reminiscent of BF2142 guided gunship rockets.

It's not useful against helicopters unless they're facing you.

So I've been missing out all along with my regular rockets? Lulz.

Maybe I'll get some more kills now, since my gunner always gets 60+ and I'm stuck with 10-ish kills.

Those are still your regular pilot rockets, its just that they hit in a much tighter area and have a significantly increased range. Furthermore the deviation from the center of the reticule depending on whether you´re climbing or descending is reduced.
It also enables you to hit choppers with them much more often, even when they are not facing you, cause the higher precision makes it easier to lead targets.

That's incredible lol, I should start using them then..
I thought those missiles required some kind of laser lock on..

Nope, just an upgrade for your regular ones. I too use it all the time.

Why the hell did I not know, lol.
So I'm guessing they're a much better alternative to the regular ones then?

Yes, they are, but there might be better upgrades depending on your playstyle. The laser marker can be very powerful if you have a dedicated gunner with missiles for example.

Thanks, I'll start experimenting : )

I usually run stealth/flares/heatseekers as pilot, while my gunner has autoloader/thermal and TV.
We can't play overly agressive with that setup, but it rapes maps like Caspian.

We should try the ECM/Flares combo thouh..

ECM works great for the pilot and makes up for not having stealth somewhat (if you choose to take the guided rockets or laser for example)

Just played a round, worked pretty sweet.
We gotta work more on the ECM/Flares/TV coordination though.

Do you guys use ECM or Flares first?

ecm because it reloads quicker, then flares, and by that time your ecm should have reloaded again

Roger.

I've only played one round with that setup so far, but is it just a bug ('feature') that you still hear the locking-on tone for 2-ish seconds after having deployed your ECM?

And also, as soon a rocket is launched at you, ECM is useless, right?

yes, no.  i've used the ecm after a missle launch and evaded them as long as i turned away.

I've heard people say you can tell the kind of lock on (laser or heat) by looking at the color of 'LOCK' on your screen, however, I've never seen it change color, am I the only one?

Yes, passive guidance.  You fire, they track in slightly...although recently they seem to guide much less than before (PC).  I find that they are getting a lot fewer hits if launched near the target.

What are people's thoughts on the Laser Painter/Guided Missile combo?

Me and finray were using it to good effect on caspian one round. I normally use laser painter to lase targets for my teammates
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.

eh, laser painter/guided takes too long imo.  unless you're on a server with less than 20 people, i would stick with the rockets.

I haven't really looked, but can you use laser painter and guided missiles at the same time in the scouts?

I noticed none of that on PC. They still fly straight, and straight past the target if not aimed properly. Just flew again yesterday and I slighty missed a moving tank because I did not compensate for throttle and all went past him.

I just did some testing and it does seem that they are not guided, which doesn't make sense considering they're called 'Guided Rockets'. I do get amazing across-the-map kills on tanks with them though. Maybe they don't track vehicles but follow the aiming cross-hair?

If you look closely enough the rockets will folloe the targets a bit, they will move right or left depending on where it is, but just a bit.

Also why is the havoc targeting system so broken? The cobra's rockets will go approximately where the crosshair is but with the havoc you have to sort of guess where the rockets are gonna go.
Even if you use the "I" as a reference point its still pretty random most of the times.

The Havoc is altogether broken.

Slow.  Inaccurate aiming. Corners like a 30' stretch limo.

The havoc is shit. Not only that but on sharqi if you're in the havoc at the start of the round you're probably going to die. It starts off lower and it can't go back too far because the map boundary is like 20 metres behind so you can't even aim up for long at the ah1z because you're gonna fly backwards out of bounds.

Another thing that's not been tested, what a surprise.

It's a lot more bearable if you keep your speed with it, never fly BF2 style, when you turn bank inwards and never try to do that circle strafe thing
