Yeah, his point is that stuff doesn't come naturally to him so he finds it difficult to get anywhere. It's obviously not rocket science for people with normal social intelligence, but he doesn't have that. Just like someone who sucks at math thinks rocket science is, well, rocket science.
I was trying to make it sound like an everyday normal thing, rather than it being some really big burden like he currently sees it.

Practice definitely makes perfect, as it does with all things, but if you are starting from a low skill level, it can seem like a major burden to comport yourself normally in social situations.
You have to keep getting out of your comfort zone. Then it gets easier. Takes time though. You'll learn what works and doesn't. I know it's pretty much a cliche, but be genuine. I talk to (new) women like I've known them forever. It works well for me.. they get comfortable quick. .. usually.

For me the problem of leaving my comfort zone was the fact that I never really had to. I always made up some excuse not to talk to girls or only talk to ones I already knew (and therefor had no chance with. Friend zone FTL).
