I've noticed.
Friend had 3 Turtlebeach headsets when I bought my 360. He let me use one since he didn't need the third. His pair broke (he's married and him and his wife play xbox together, hence the 2 other headsets) so I had to give it back and I've played about 2 hours without a headset.
Pro: Makes me rely on the minimap more like I did on COD4 which was all about the map and sound.
Cons: 0 situational awareness. I have no idea when I'm being shot at or if anybody is shooting nearby. Not to mention footsteps and other things.

I head Dead Island which I'd like to return.
If that is true, I'm going to switch Dead Island for Forza 4 and buy a headset as well, but if it isn't I'm going to get my $25 for the used game and spend that toward the $60 that an X12 (X11 but black) headset. So I need to be physically present at the Gamestop which is about 7 miles away at the least.
