Its all set to ultra high and stuff .. blah blah blah... but my problem is, some sounds like voices sound a bit faded and dull (If you know what i mean then good). Guns sound like there beign shot from a distance rather than from your hands. Is there a setting I need to tweak?

My equalizer is currently set to flat?

Im currently only using Headphones so what should the CMSS 3D be set up like?

I know exactly what you mean. Set your speaker settings to 2-channel or headphones. At some point, pick up some 7.1 speakers when you can afford it. Then the X-Fi will show its true colors.

Play BFME2 also, I see?

Sometimes I hate my Xfi audio.. I am using windows xp 64 bit drivers and I always and I mean ALWAYS have to alt tab out of bf2 try to enable a different audio mode with the card. And then bam it starts working again.

I use headphones, used to use zalman surround audio but the channels dont distribute the sound properly.

I've heard of these issues before when I was looking into buying a x-fi.

Bascially make sure you have the card setup for head phones, if your using 5.1 headphones use 5.1 settings ignore the fact that they are head phones. Also make sure your using the correct X-Fi drivers people were having problems with windows insisting on using it's own drivers (the ones that it thinks are best for the card).

Basically when copying drivers etc make sure they are reading from the correct places etc.

Other than that I don't know what to suggest.

There was a great article I found once on google, the website had tech in the name. Explained how to fix such problems. For the life of me I can't find it again sorry I searched for you again but couldn't find it.

I heard you should disable your on board sound before installing the x fi extreme music to make a trouble free installation?

Any truth to this?

Ok I got the latest official drivers. How would I know if my headphones are surround capable? and would they be 5.1 , 6.1 or 7.1 ?

Type the model number into google and do a search and see, if they're surround headphones, they're probably 5.1

Here are 5.1 headsets from newegg, I probably missed some but you get the picture.

Just so you know, the X-Fi was created FOR HEADPHONE use.  If you look at all the reviews before it came out, they sounded sorta like this ...

"The X-Fi is a great sound card, it delivers when you use speakers.  But to hear the true greatness, one must use their headsets."

I have never regretted buying this thing.  I can tell how far away people are, tanks are, planes are, how many buildings in between me and the battle.  It's a great card.

100%. Having two audio cards working together isn't going to give you SLI performance.

I've ran into someone today who thought it would...argh.

I just use a Plantronics stereo headset.  X-Fi setting is default Gaming mode.  I haven't adjusted the equalizer settings.  Everything comes out clean and clear.  I believe I have the PC set to 5.1 speakers.  Did you connect your headphones to line-out or speakers?  I'll confirm my settings tonight.

Edit: interesting.  I had my Speakers set to Headphones.  Tried setting it to 5.1, but got muffled sound all over.

So disable on board sound before installation and keep it disabled after installation?

ok for headfones, assuming they aren't surround sound

set it to headfones and what cmss3d on i nthe settings, turn 24 bit crystalizer OFF, turn the equalizer OFF
make sure your in game mode (if your not already)

put some bass boost on if your headphones can handle it

IF they're 5.1 headfones with 3 connections  to the soundcard
5.1 setup
for bf2 use Stereo Xpand cmss3d, auto upmix, with the slide at the bottom, closest to "Surround"
again no crystalizer, no equaliser
and change the bass crossover to something like 80 (i wouldn't turn on the 15dB boost unless you want your head shaking off when artillery hits...

btw anyone who has an xfi.. if your using 5.1 or 7.1 speakers whack on cmss3d on stereo xpand at full surround on auto..
it massively improves the surround sound in bf2 (i remember reading a readme saying that cmss3d should be on in bf2, since this isn't the case with most/all other games which emulate surround properly with 5.1 setups)

anyway my 2 cents well pence since i aint from america.. anyway..
yea

Not twice as loud, but twice as much the effects and less CPU load. ;P
