I actually think Jango Fett looks cooler but finding stuff for him would be harder than for his son.Macbeth wrote:
I haven't done Halloween since the fifth grade. This year I'm going to get back into it. I'm stuck deciding between Cobra Commander and Boba Fett.
They both have their pluses and minuses
If I decide on the Boba Fett I will have to spend a pretty good amount to get it to look good since a disheveled Boba Fett just looks sad. Everyone knows who Boba Fett is so I won't have to explain it to everyone.
The Cobra Commander costume would be cheaper but not as recognizable as Fett. But on the plus side it would give me an excuse to hang out with ugly white chicks. Seriously that girl is ugly.
are you seriously planning a halloween costume in december?
tbh ...

just got sniped on an ebay auction, so fucking annoying. programs that put in a much higher bid than the bid-war with 2 seconds left. auction went from £200 in incremental £5 bids to £320 with 5 seconds left. "storeys".

well i wanted a second turntable (cause i have the cash) but this auction was actually for a pair, at a ridiculously good price. what makes it worse is that the account that won the bid (clearly by sniping) has been sniping soo many auctions. literally won like 15 bids for turntables today alone. 3000+ sale history on ebay. clearly just some electronics/consumer store type account sniping out the individual buyer and snapping up tons of turntables at like £300-400 a piece.
so fucking annoying that technics discontinued what were basically the best turntables in the world... the second-hand market sucks balls.

IIRC Ebay is falling off. It's losing market share to big sites like Amazon and small niche sites. I don't see the appeal of ebay myself either.13/f/taiwan wrote:

I guess I'll do Boba Fett. Did you know there are entire websites about how to make a Fett costume?

i fucking hate using ebay but the only other good marketplace for these things is gumtree... and that's all collection-only (they weigh 15-20kg each and are extremely fragile so courier is pretty much no-no). ebay is the only place you can find suckas willing enough to put their precious technics in a van and take the punt on the auction insurance.

first step is finding out which party you're going to, then consider what other people would wear/the amount of effort they would put in etc etc, then just run around the weekend before picking stuff up

there's quite a lot of protection in ebay auctions, i wouldn't worry. a lot of shops sell through ebay as well so they have their own consumer law to abide by. i agree that going into second hand for electronics/instruments is a bit worrying but it's literally the only way to get these turntables now, shy of paying £800-1000 for one. they've been the club standard since like the 1970's and technics know it, so they 'discontinued' them (people speculate they're still being made...) in order to drive up the shop price like 2.5x as much. shitty, i know. that means if you want to get a single turntable then you've got to go second-hand for anything < £500 a piece. even on amazon second-hand sellers these amazon supported (refurb) stores want £650-800. i'm not paying that for a fucking record player!

cripes. i still can't wrap my head around paying that much for decks (i know literally nothing about them though, so perhaps understandable). i still remember feeling ill buying my jaguar, i'll never spend more on anything musical.

i wouldn't be surprised about the price inflation thing though, most musical products are fairly niche + sell by word of mouth, so fairly easy to manipulate.

yeah jaguars are nice. i felt ill when i sold my custom telecaster but i wanted out with the old guitar stuff and in with some new quality audio gear - speakers, mainly. i've used my parents' turntables for years but they're standard hi-fi consumer ones... i.e. no dj features, not very rugged. i want to invest in some turntables that i can mix with when i have the space/time again (short on both in postgrad living). i could get a standard turntable to play records in my room for like £75-250 (depending on quality) but it wouldn't be any good for mixing. buu. ebay snipers are shutting down an xmas present to myself
