Remember this?
Remember how people lost their minds about how we have to respect the presidency and all that jazz? I disagree.
I don't think our leaders elected or otherwise deserve any respect based of of their office alone. I think the whole idea of a meritocracy doesn't allow for a respect of office like some people want to have for the president. I think "respect" for our officials can only be earned through their actions.
I also don't see how winning an election for an office is somehow an accomplishment warranting awe. It's nothing more than a glorified popularity contest. Considering how an elected position in our government is billed as a "service to the people" instead of a reward or privilege etc. I don't see how the people can be expected to treat their officials with some sort of undue respect since the position demands service...
Am I wrong? Do we have to respect the president, and congress or should we treat them like we would any other person who doesn't perform, is wrong, is a failure etc.?
