I've been done with the book for almost a month. I do agree about the ending, but CP did say that there would be a book 5 eventually once CP writes his sci-fi book he's been wanting to write. There is still hope.

Eragon series isn't that great, only good as filler really. Other two are actually something worth reading.

clearly the song of fire and ice series is better, but hp? not quite sure. the inheritance series is something that you get attached to as a kid, much like the hp series. you get so invested in the characters and story that you just have to see the end. i just happened to be more attached to CP's books.

Haven't read the last one yet, quite enjoyed the others. You don't have to actually concentrate on them or anything. They're just poorly written ripoffs of every fantasy book that teenage boys read.

my advice is to read everything up until the last 70 pages or so and imagine your own ending

That reminds me of the David Eddings - Belgariad series.

I enjoyed those books as I kid. Looking at them now, they were rather cookie cutter storylines. And the characters very cliched, to the point where you had as main characters the Wizard, the "Chosen One", the Barbarian, and the Thief. All it was missing was an archer character and you had the complete set!

children's literature is often written very well, though, by people that know what they're doing and are excellent at condensing 'adult' ideas into child-like nibbles. there's a difference between good children's literature and literature just written by a clueless kid; this series painfully falls into the latter. it was all marketing hype and pr, as the book industry loves the idea of a 'child prodigy'... it sells so well! sadly, the books are wank, and now he's an adult and the series is years old, it doesn't hold up as self-standing fiction. sorry. read something else.

I think Eragon was absolutely overhyped, but it was a great effort for a kid author. It didn't really tempt me to read any of the successive books, so I'm not going to judge those.

The movie was also worse than Dungeons & Dragons and Mortal Kombat put together.

Just because he's older now doesn't mean that his older work should change. His newer stuff should be better, but I just hear it simply isn't.

i won't say he's a good author but myself and several other friends (who admitted reluctantly ) read the "final" book as closure because we appreciated the series as kids

like hp. how many "adults" saw the last hp movie?

i stopped reading harry potter after the second book / after i turned about 14, cause i had better things to be doing.

i don't understand this whole 'suffer sequels and sequels of absolute shite to gain closure' thing.
