You really do have OCD...unnamednewbie13 wrote:
Unspoken rules (from my point of view):Macbeth wrote:
I used to get rid of the books I have read but now I have this urge to display them. It also seems like a normal person thing to do and I want to seem normal, like I am. So, what are some rules to filling up a bookshelf?
I already know hardcover > softcover. What else is there?
1) Balance your wallspace with bookshelves. Don't fill up every spare inch you have with shelves. Looks crowded.
2) Be as organized as you want. If you live alone, feel free to professionally catalog your stuff. With others, be satisfied with "by author," "series/#" and "title," because it will never stay in subcategories or the dewey decimal system.

Being as organized as you want is OCD? As organized as you want could be just making sure they're not sprawled binding-up on the floor. Don't be a douche.
Sorting by author/series/title isn't OCD if you have enough books to justify it.

I organize by topic. Eg. History, Military History, School, Business, Geography, General Novels, Maybe a certain author if I have a lot.
Really its what ever works for you.
