just as the nazis believed that the aryan race was superior, the US believes that their freedom is superior, and already too many people have been killed/murdered in the process of giving them freedom...
in a couple of decades, the US will be just as bad as nazigermany... if the US still exists, that is.
all realist-scholars in political science say that unipolar systems are instabile and the hegemon  will eventually fall, all the rest the world can do until it happens is hiding and waiting.

we all know that the world is more stabile when there is two equal powers balancing eachother. i even think thats some sort of law in physics, where there is a plus-charge there must be a minus-charge and vice verse.

Nope not at all. I do think our democracy is now a shining light for the world to admire and even model, if they chose to.

Our form of govt. allows us the freedom to have these open forums, for us to criticize our leadership openly. When corruption raises its ugly head within our govt. It is exposed, for the whole world to see, most of the time by our govt. itself and it is cleaned up. Our freedom of press holds our officals in check, without fear of repercussions.

In the past month, 2 ordinary citizens, on separate occasions, stood up and openly criticized Bush and Rumsfeld to their faces. When they were about to be escorted from the audiance, Bush and Rumsfeld intervened, and insisted these to Americans be allowed to speak their minds. 2 of the most powerful men in the world gave way to open criticisim from 2 ordinary citizens. Now both of these incidences became fodder for the internet so all of you could have a good laugh. For me, and allot of other Americans, it showed the world just how great a country the United States of America truely is.

When would you say freedom of speech was established, and how long do you expect it to last?

Just a hypothetical:  Should WW3 become a reality (and I mean something on the scale of WW2 or larger) and America was actually threatened with extinction, would those freedoms still persist?

well, just like WW2 freedom of speech was curtailed, letters were censored and propaganda was distributed, all for the good of national security, and it was right to do so. You are constantly trying to deal in absolutes   When changes are made or need to be made, you start screaming hypocrite. It is a very fluid time we live in and we must adapt to those flows. If we do not, we are dead.

You are right, the history of how the US raped the American Indians is not pleasant. However, it happened 150 years ago and I had nothing to do with it and I can't change it. If you want to start a thread on how the US fucked over the native indians, you would probably find me on your side.

If you want to talk about a more recent stain on our history......go back only 60 years to just before the civil rights movement. I know America isn't perfect or has been perfect. Like I said sometime in another post. It is however, trying to grow and be something meaningful to everyone. Not many countries can say that even now.

See...they have NO CHOICE in a public forum. These men work for us ordinary people. They god damn well better listen.
