public disorder, vagrancy just to name a few.
Disobeying police orders....
Is that a crime? I know the Police would like it to be.

Even if it is the Police don't get to dish out punishment on the spot, they're supposed to put people before a court.

Of course they do, it gives them a reason to carry a club.

I don't know about the US, but here disobeying a move on notice is an arrest-able offence.

By law (again not sure on the US) they have committed an arrest-able offence, they have then resisted arrest, they are then arrested by force (including the use of pepper spray).

Not saying it couldn't have been handled better but to be fair, breaking the law and not following orders while playing the victim isn't going to result in flowers and hugs.

Meh, sitting on the ground is not an offence deserving of pepper spray to the face.

Did Madoff get pepper-sprayed in the face for refusing to say where the money was?

You'll notice that when the police attacked the protest in Melbourne a few weeks ago they removed any identification on their uniforms prior to targeting the weakest members of the group and dragging them out in between bursts of pepper spray. Think that was before they charged the protesters on horseback.

Removing their ID is illegal IIRC, they should have pepper sprayed themselves.

Police are often looking for a fight, and an excuse to prove they're needed.

The fact that our political system is deadlocked and that the average voter has little to no say in their government is reason enough to protest. If you buy into their arguments about wealth in this country (their facts are correct but the devil is in the details) then they do have reason to complain that their quality of life is going to be lower than their parents and that the government doesn't much care.

As much of a good time you are having taking shots at the OWS movement, John, I think it's funny how you will defend the Tea Party to death. Because those guys were 'fighting the good fight' while these people 'just want to be a part of something'. Can you be more hypocritical?
I haven't devoted any time to defending the tea party. I just pointed out that I never read any stories about them getting arrested for civil disobedience, or of them getting pepper sprayed. It's funny, because they managed to get their point across just fine while the OWS movement still has no discernable cause apart from children pretending it's the 60s and they have some epic battle on their hands. They have nothing. Bitch about having no say in government all you want. You're one of 330 million people represented by less than 700. As shitty as our government is, direct democracy has proven to be worse in every regard.

Thats simply the right wing line 'they have no cause, according to us, therefore we can ignore them'.

They have various causes, some of which they share with the Tea Party, just as the Tea Party has various causes - many of which are also non-sensical non-starters.

What I've noticed is that Police tend not to turn up to right-wing rallies at all, when they do they aren't usually in full riot gear and they try not to pick fights.
Left-wing rallies on the other hand and they're looking for trouble.

Could it be that--with the exception of neonazis and their ilk, of course--there's generally not the requirement? At least in the US, it's the lefties that generally force the issue with the cops, following the "contest authority" party line (at least the protestors--it's a remnant of the 60s, tbh). They assume the cops are there to start something (they aren't), so they get in their faces, calling them fascists and whatnot. Again, there are exceptions, but that's generally the case here.

This. The police only need to mace conservative soccer moms if they're innocent bystanders at WTO protests.

Probably campaign finance reform, reinstatement of glass-steagal, end of wars, back to normal tax rates

Just speculation.  But I think "99" percent of them would agree with that.

They are refusing to pick sides because, unlike the tea party phonies they are largely independent and do not want to be co-opted by the dems.

So because of that you get the anarchists, communists, etc. and people who do not know what they're talking about and do not really represent much of the movement.  Kinda like the racists in the tea party.

end of wars
Change.

back to normal tax rates
What's a 'normal' tax rate? The 90% the wealthy paid under FDR?

For as much as the tax rates have been monkeyed around with, that's a very stable line.

So is this one.

Whatever the '99 percent' have in common with tea party views is very superficial. End the wars, fine, whatever, at this point who cares? I don't hear the Tea Party begging the government for handouts in the form of student loan forgiveness (or complete debt forgiveness in some cases). If you hadn't heard, we're broke. Medicare and Social Security costs are spiking for the next thirty years and we don't have the money to pay for it. Yet these fools want more spending because academia is still holding the torch for Marxism and brainwashes nearly every kid that goes to college.

Never said it was.

But in the US, you generally don't see right-leaning rallies acting that way, either.

So apparently these guys encircled the cops...then refused to move.  As for the rule/law they were breaking, the campus has a no camping policy.  So, we have breaking school policy and disobeying police orders.  But, I guess we should just give them hugs instead.  oh and they were warned multiple times if they didn't move they would be sprayed.  they didn't move.  Darwin wins.
