48/2(9+3)=2.  The correct answer is 2.

what the fuck is this 2 spaces shit? one space is the standard, always has been, always will be. why would you ever need to double space your punctuation? were your teachers short-sighted in school? i'm sorry, but if you double space punctuation, i can only conclude that you must be a morans.

to all you people that use two full-stops:

when you read the newspaper, or any other print medium, why is it that there's only 1 space?
when you read academic essays and 'formal' writing, why is it there's only 1 space?
when you read a novel, or a non-fiction history book, or a memoir, or a travelogue, or a play, why is it there's only 1 space?
when you read wikipedia, or bbc news, or bf3s, or any other website, why is it there's only 1 space?

have you never stopped and asked yourself WHY THE FUCK AM I USING 2 SPACES?

I think the adults in our life when we were younger felt threatened by the apparent technological superiority of the upcoming generation and drilled in some inane habit that would haunt us and cause conflict within the ranks.

Let's not let them break us.  Be strong.  One or two, it comes down to a few characters...mere pixels.

(e: clarification)

Was actually required for some of my papers here in /america as recently as last decade.

Explanation for everyone else without a degree in English: two spaces is the old way and still seeps to the surface here and there. It's a relic of the typewriter era of monospaced fonts. Paste a single-space-after-punctuation paragraph into notepad and note the lack of visual break-up. Now modify it so double-spaces are used after each concluding punctuation mark. This enhances readability, whereas it isn't necessary for (but doesn't hurt) today's proportional fonts. The general rule of thumb is to not use them unless specifically requested, or using a typewriter or typewriter-like font.

Code:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
