I only got my 6600gt last christmas and I can definately say I saw improvement over my 9200. I was pleased that I could run HDR (not fast but atleast support it). Ive always felt thoe that my 6600gt card was a bit "broken" as it does not run bf2 or oblivion that well.

I play bf2 on low/medium settings with 1027x760 (you know what res im on about), and I get about 20fps, this is on 64 player servers. On oblivion my game runs at 15-20 fps on low. Im sure it could to better since I know people who have much better fps at higher settings with the same card as I. Now beleive me I have tried every voodo cure for my 6600gt; beta drivers, overclocking, herbal medicine. Nudda.

I stumbled on ebay a 320 sells (100%) seller with 20 6800gt for sale at £120, brand new. Im wandering if this card should give me what im looking for? I dont mean to be greedy but I atleast want to play BF2 at High/Med at above 25+ and oblivion at Medium with 25+. So give the for sale to my 5 month 6600gt and buy a hopefully good 6800gt

My full system dxdiag can be found here:

Thanks. I really hope someone can help.

PS: doesnt the 6800gt have some pipelines to unlock? (Im agp)

I'm told the GS is the one you can unlock to a GT or something.

Anyway, I have a 6800 GT OC and the thing kicks BF2's ass. I upgraded to it from a 9800 Pro (which is similiar to a 6600) and it's a night and day difference. I run 1600x1200; high models, textures (I have 2 gigs of RAM), and terrain; low/off dynamic crap (rather have the extra FPS); low/off lighting (makes it hard to see indoors), no AA (again, rather thave the extra FPS and at 1600x1200, it doesn't matter).

Simply put, the 6800 GT can't handle the game at max everything settings, but it sure looks good on it and you'll easily be able to run a med/high combination.

So yes, a 6800 GT is a worthy upgrade.

EDIT: You might want to go for a 7800 series though, not sure. Check out this thread: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=25017

the 6800gt does not have the pipelines to unlock, I thought only the Vanilla 6800 (not ultra or gt, not sure about gs) has ones to unlock.  And that was before, by now nVidia may have locked the pipelines on the AGP 6800's.

The performance differences between the 6600GT and 6800GT aren't worth the upgrade, unless you can sell the 6600GT for at least 3/4 the value of the 6800GT. Depending on the rest of your rig specs, you would be far better off waiting for an 8800. If your computer is aging, like a <1.83GHz Athlon XP, then I recommend you save get a new one built from scratch at some point in 2007 using a budget of at least USD $1.2K

Your current system should be able to do better than that though, maybe your AGP is set to 4x ?

You can use this program to find out.

I think I would be able to sell my 6600gt for atleast over £60 - thats about half the price I bought it at.

Is'nt there another way to check my agp settings? and also a 6800gs with unlocked pipes = to a 6800gt with no tweaks?

thats the card im interested in - what do you think?

My comps an athlon64 4000 (2.4g) 2 gig ram and a 6800gt and i run bf2 at high to max setting as with most games, i would say upgrade now if you havnt got 1500 pounds to spend on a whole new system. With oblivion download NVTWEAK once you have the 6800gt and you can open up alot of new menus within the nvidia setup. Change the maxframes ahead render to 0 and oblivion will run fine on high settings. Im waiting to upgrade myself but i would recommend the 6800gt especially if you are still using AGP and not PCI.

For 120 quid, you should be able to get a better card than that.

Have a look here. You can get an 7600, which would be a lot better than the 6800.
EDIT: Just make sure that you look at the price next to the price in bold, as the bold font is without VAT.

Dude, don't get the vid card unless you go with the 7800gs.  I have one and it rocks this game!  Spend the cash on another gig of memory if your mobo will support it.  Your load times will be faster and there will be less in-game lag.

My bad. In that case, go for this. PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO. 5th one down.

EDIT: Ok, so they're actually pretty similar. I was thinking the 6800 had fewer pixel pipelines.

EDIT pt2: Actually, go for the one you found. It's better than the other 6800's I've seen.
