none of these local fuckers wanted to pay someone to do warehouse work when they have a CDL (mine's a class B, no hazmat) or IT work for someone that has 15 years experience.

i wish you well finding someone, and only ask that you don't discriminate against age. us old fuckers know how to work, and aren't afraid of it.

sure - but the problem i'm having is
a) businesses are starting to discriminate against people that are currently unemployed or have been out of work for awhile
b) the pay rate of past employment

i'm getting a lot of "thanks for applying" responses but no interviews, even for warehouse type work. i'm being told i'm 'over-qualified', whatever that's supposed to mean.
People are starting to discriminate because there's a number of people that have viewed the 99 weeks of unemployment as a paid vacation from work. Yes, that's a minority, but inertia has set in and a lot of people have simply forgotten what it actually means to get up every morning and go to work. My fiancee is in a position where she hires people and I asked her about hiring the unemployed after Obama made his announcement. Her response was: "Well, if they have big gaps in their job history they can't explain, I won't call them back". And yeah, that means she'd rather hire someone coming from another company that has been actively employed than someone that has been laid off for however many months. Blame the few that we've seen partying at the beach for the past few years instead of working for the stigma of laziness.

another reason i'm going back to school. but seriously, i have treated finding a job like it is my job. the only difference is i read more now, both trade publications and for personal enjoyment.

i was a Teamster for 10 years, and i can't even get on a dock here, because everyone with seniority are keeping their jobs (no early retirements).

Ha, I just remembered my first interview after getting out of the army. I was heading to school so I just wanted a part time waiter gig for a few months. Popped in for the interview on a whim, hit it off with the manager, and I was hired. At the end of the interview he said that one of the primary reasons he'd hired me was because I was clean cut as opposed to the others that applied full of piercings etc. Lucky for me, my motorcycle helmet had caused my ears to become infected and I'd taken my earrings out the night before because of it.

But at least she said "gaps they can't explain" so she's asking them about it before she decides to throw their resume in the trash...

My wife's cousin works for that company.

Wish I could work at your place. I need another job and a cowboy store sounds awesome.

I just got a raise at my current job though so I guess I don't need another but extra money would be nice...

$9 an hour starting out ....... sales associate
$9 an hour? wow.. That's less than half the minimum legal wage here..
Yeah and Min wage in Australia is 15.50 an hour but you're looking at 200+ per week rent for a tiny room in sydney.

Sere: if it's still hard to find proper applicants you should consider raising the wage to attract better workers, but 9 dollars an hour as an entry position isn't bad, shit in this economy I would've expected better workers.

$9 an hour is pretty standard for entry level retail.

WAT

it's 8.50 here and a tiny ass apartment on the other (shitty, not IT boom, away from microsoft/nintendo/amazon/boeing/nordstrom/starbucks/etc people) side of the state is 400+. and in a town of 20,000.

how do you have a higher min wage and smaller rent in relation to mine (ours). you don't even need to factor exchange rate, just look at the ratio!

inb4taxes?

30% of properties for rent... not enough rental properties in Sydney i pay 675 a week at st leonards for a 2 room apartment, right across the station too and fully furnished, that's a fucking steal for sydney.

@ OP:

Well, with 91% employment and only offering seasonal employment for minimal pay in an unskilled job with no prospects its not really surprising you're not getting the cream.

Still, there are an incredible number of slackers/hipsters who think the world revolves around them and their lifestyle.

I just don't think my generation really takes things like interviews seriously. They think they can go in acting stupid and not dressing professionally and still get the job. I personally have had a couple interviews, the first one I aced and got the job. The second one, I did really well, but unfortunately the place I applied for did a hiring freeze literally the next day after my interview.

My hook-up in HR at said business said that my interview notes were "Didn't hire, but would hire for other positions." Or something along those lines, but most the other applicants had "Wouldn't hire" and stuff like that. Idk, I'm lazy but when I'm at work I try to be professional and work hard, it's why I have a bunch of great references.

They don't take jobs that seriously either, it seems to come as a surprise that they need to get in on time, not leave early and spend some of the time in between doing things besides chatting about last weekend and organising next weekend.

at 800-900 range you're looking at 3 rooms apartment, but I had a mate who lived in milsons point and it was around 1200 a week for 2 rooms. Obviously if you live in a nice area with a station (aka north shore ) then rates are gonna be pretty high. CBD is around 900 for 3 rooms, but who the fuck wants to live in CBD.
