Ugh really hate this. HD4870 can probably easily handle this game on low (which is fine for me since it looks fine on low) however my e8400 is bottlenecking it. Can't really upgrade the CPU without upgrading the mobo eitherl and most likely will have to buy new RAM and probably a new PSU if I do upgrade the mobo aswell. F my life.

Very cool.  I was planning on 6970 CF setup.. good to see it beats the 580SLI by a hair.

Nevermind guess I should have read the chart better... lol

Yeah, this is why I held off getting that 27" 1920x1200 LCD.  I really didn't want to do 580 SLI, but I want to play at Ultra.

No way I can afford a PC anytime soon. I'm getting ~$300 a month, the job isn't bad but the hours are terrible so the pay is terrible. I'll have the necessary paperwork to join the Marines Corps soonish (5-6 months) so I'm just going to buy a 360 and play BF3 on that (and Dead Island) until I'm out of bootcamp and can actually afford a decent PC.

By the time I get in I'll have the money for a PC but no time to play it. I have no idea what MOS I'll get or if I'll have time to play after boot and MOS training so I don't want to buy something that will be outdated soon. I'll just wait and live with crappy console graphics and a generally retarded community.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.

Both will run any game out just now perfectly on max settings, the 580 is a bit more powerful, but obviously costs a bit more. You won't be disappointed with either.

Same here, I'd get freezes as well that locked the CPU usage at 100% and I'd have CAD out of the game, end the process manually.  I uninstalled the beta because everytime I'd play it would crash.

However BC2 runs like a charm in DX9 mode.

Sometimes that happens to me even on my Q9550, but I'm wondering if it's not something else like my GTX 260 that's doing it

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated. One last question. Is there a noticable difference between 1600 RAM and 1800 or 2000mhz. And if so what is the difference between Cosair and Kingston?

Anyone contemplating buying a new machine in the next few weeks, who can afford to wait a few weeks, should wait for the release of AMD's bulldozer and see what that does to the market.

There will be better CPUs from both AMD and Intel (8000 series and 2700K), and you will probably see a price war.

If you get the same CPU as you would have before, you'll pay less.  If you still want to spend the same amount of cash, you'll get more bang for your buck.

If I were joining the Marines my priority would be playing FPS games....

Think I will:

Buy BF3 and a new PC after Xmas
Already got the 1920x1200 screen so halfway there...

Or maybe wait a few updates so I can let it all settle down - apart from the "zomg patch 1.2 totally nerfed [                        ] it was aswm b4 FML" wailing.

(Having a softcopy of the BF2 install files at patch 1.5 saves a lot of reinstalling hassles)

O.K., I'm starting to doubt my processor now.  I get input lag on Caspian Border servers.  From my experience, input lag = 100% processor usage = weak processor.  That's in addition to the graphics card choppiness from my GTX 260.  At least I still got 4GB of RAM as long as Firefox doesn't run away with it while I'm playing

Not sure if the Q9550 is cutting it, I'm hoping that the beta is just not properly optimized for the PC but I really don't know.

Why did you get the i7?  coulda saved some money and put it into something else...  Hyperthreading isn't used by any games I know of and you can clock the i5 to high heaven.

Raid 1?  disk mirroring isn't known for its performance...  More of a fault tolerance thing... I could understand using an SSD as boot drive and using a RAID 1 array for backups etc...

Everything else looks good.  Although, I prefer Asus to Gigabyte.. IMO Asus>all others

As Sonder says, unless you plan on doing stuff such as video editing etc. the i5 would be a much better choice, in terms of both price and performance in games.

The I5 is only $100 cheaper. Would that be better spent on 2000mhz RAM instead of 1600mhz or where would you put that extra money?
