well it's not like they released the iphone 4 directly after the iphone 3

i don't know why everyone was getting carried away with the iphone 5

i think this is just as much of an improvement as the iphone 3g/3gs revisions

well considering my current phone beats the iphone specs in nearly every single category and was released 3 months before... and that voice command stuff was on android 2 years ago.  as well as the notification system

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Actually, the iPhone 4 was more a speed upgrade on the 3GS than anything else. Similar processors and the software didn't see any truly groundbreaking changes (like the new iOS version does). The 4S should have been something a bit more than it was, but I think the dual core processor is likely being beta-tested on the public at the moment. The new software isn't all that fantastic because it's already been presented - had Apple held off on that with the introduction of the 4S, we would be seeing a lot less negative sentiment.

What puzzles me more than anything else is WHY Apple waited until October to release the 4S. Perhaps iOS 5 needed more time than they expected? Who knows.

apparently it drops immediately after every update, i cant imagine releasing a nonexistent update would hurt them - people will still buy them by the millions.
The stock took a nice hit when the iPad was released. You had the exact same situation here: a lot of hype and then the reaction afterwards was quite negative. People had been expecting something revolutionary but in the end it was little more than iOS on the big screen. What happened, however? The iPad line has gone on to become a gigantic success.

But Winston, your comments about how Android has already had all of these features are moot. If you want to look at it like that then Nokia and RIM have pretty much EVERYONE beat on who had what first. The difference is how good are they? Did the manufacturer really integrate them into the platform or just throw them out there? Are the features being used by developers to make really awesome applications to add value to a platform (this only became a concern since the iPhone and Android platforms)?

I simply cannot believe that Apple are marketing the iPhone 5 as "having voice commands"

that shit has been around since 2002, what makes it so fucking special now?

debating on skipping the 4GS and waiting around for the 5, or picking it up.
(I'm on the 3GS now and It's starting to feel a bit dated)
(Though it does still get the iOS5 upgrade)

Sucks for people who were in a 2 year contract starting with the first one keep getting the barely updated phones. The 3GS was hardly worth the money compared to the 3G and the 4S looks like it's not nearly worth it over a 4.

I started with an iPhone 3G, then went to the 4 which was a huge leap, and next I'll be on the iPhone 5 which I would imagine will be completely re-designed.

Well that's what I'm saying, what were people expecting out of this? Just a new design for the sake of looking different?

I have to say, I wasn't blown away at first but after watching some of their videos and reading more about it I can't wait until next Friday when I pick mine up from Covent Garden :)

Exactly, just because something has been around for years doesn't mean it hasn't been completely shit for years, you used to have to read Alice in Wonderland to your PC and even then it still didn't understand what you were saying 90% of the time.

What other device does this?

We tried to psych it out with a bunch of random requests, including the history of Chester, Vermont (a lovely town) and the best Ramen places in San Francisco. Siri never faltered, never missed a beat. It worked as well as Scott's demo up on the stage. There's nothing better to say than that. We even sent ourselves a few text messages, which Siri transcribed to a T. Of course, the lady on the other end still sounds eerily robotic, but we're hoping for smoother responses from the alien within in a future update.
and remember this is still in beta, it's not even finished yet...

Well, I remember when they marketed the 1st iPhone as "revolutionary" while the only thing it did better than a rock was calls, text and touch

I've always hated the stock LGA 775 coolers. Too bad I had to install one today.
