You have a good pitching staff which limits runs. That factors into it too. 1-0 pitchers duels are a helluva lot quicker than 11-9 slugfests.

and the large park, and half of our salary being taken up by people we've already traded, and etc... I guess there's a silver lining to finishing 2nd to last in the AL.

would be interesting to see the trend by pitcher.  People like Halladay, Buerhle, Weaver, Verlander pitch like they are late for dinner.

Yep. That's a factor too. Someone did some data on the time a pitcher takes between pitches, let me see if I can dig it up.

Ahh, here it is:
http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfx.aspx?p … position=P

PACE is the time between pitches. You can look up any pitchers pace, this link happens to be for Ian Kennedy.

Mark Beurhle's PACE: 15.9 seconds. He threw 3142 pitches this season, so his total time on the mound was 13 hrs 53 mins

CC Sabathia's PACE: 23.2 seconds. 3592 pitches, 23 hrs 9 mins pitching

I seriously seriously loathe slow pitchers. There's really nothing wrong with it, it's just a style, but watching you take 10 seconds to start your windup after you've seen the signs is fucking annoying as all hell.

Beckett: PACE 26.9, 2987 pitches, 22 hrs 19 mins

Sabathia threw 40 more innings than him and they almost timed in total pitch time.

David Wright does the same thing. Redoes the strap on both batting gloves and then lifts up his shirt to wipe his nose. Every fucking pitch.

Ichiro does sorta the same thing with the bat swing and shirt/shoulder adjust. It was cute the first few seasons but it gets old EVERY damn time. Plus he doesn't quite have the stats to back it up anymore.

still love you ichi

he just pulls his shoulder sleeve a bit and lines the bat up to the pitcher.  Ichiro should go down as one of the best players of this generation.
