Illegal immigration is a net plus for our economy. I guess you have to take the bad (occasional crime) with the good (better economy).

So, lowing, you're ok with the government telling businesses how they should operate?

You're ok with the government telling them who they can hire?

You're ok with paying twice as much for food at the grocery store, and three times as much at a restaurant?

You're ok watching small farms finally go under to be replaced completely with big agribusiness like ConAgra?

How much money would it take to entice you to wash dishes in a restaurant?

What about to work out in the fields as a sweet potato picker?

What about picking dates at the top of 80 foot tall trees?

You want your next home renovation project to cost double?

Illegal immigration should be a Democrat issue, not a Republican one. The unions are the ones who would gain the most if any forcable ban on illegal immigration were to be put in place. But you're so blinded by hate, and so full of nationalistic stupidity, that you would slit your own throat just to put some brown skinned people in their place. You truly are a bigot and a moron.

If you're an unemployed American who knows how to harvest sweet potatoes, consider heading to Alabama.

Yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Blackburn upheld the portions of a stringent law that authorizes police to check immigration status during traffic stops and requires public schools to check students' immigration status when they enroll.

The Obama administration filed the main lawsuit challenging the law on the grounds that the federal government alone has power to enforce immigration law. Until she has time to make a final ruling, Judge Blackburn temporarily blocked some provisions, like one that would ban transporting or harboring an illegal immigrant and another that would make it illegal to stop on the side of the road and hire someone. The court may eventually decide to uphold all sections of the law.

Farmers in Alabama now worry whether they'll be able to hire enough laborers for harvests, and they've got plenty of reason to fret given the situation one state over. Georgia passed a similar law cracking down on illegal immigration last spring, only to face a shortage of migrant farm workers shortly thereafter. "The labor shortage is potentially putting hundreds of millions of dollars in crops at risk, say state agricultural industry leaders," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported in June.

The Tuscaloosa News reports today:

“There are some sweet potato farmers in this state it's really going to hurt. I don't know how they're going to get their crops out,” said Jeremy Calvert, a farmer in rural Bremen.

Earlier this summer, Tuscaloosa residents were already concerned about the potential effects of new restrictions on immigrants. The tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa last April destroyed more than 7,200 homes and businesses, and people wondered how they'll rebuild a city when many of its immigrant concrete pourers, framers, roofers, and other construction laborers were leaving town. In July, The Tuscaloosa News reported:

Jimmy Latham, CEO of WAR Construction in Tuscaloosa and president of the Alabama Association of General Contractors, said the rebuilding in Tuscaloosa will be most noticeable by January and February 2012, and that's when people here might see the impact of the new law.

"Statewide, what we think will happen is that the (work) crew sizes will get smaller and prices will go up," said Latham, whose association represents contractors doing industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects.

It will take at least a few more months to see whether or how the new law affects Tuscaloosa's rebuilding. But many of the construction laborers, farm workers, dishwashers, and contributors to Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting who live and work in the U.S. probably aren't in a hurry to move to the Yellowhammer State.

Why is it illegal to cross a border in the first place? What motive is there behind such a law? All laws stem from the basis that they are designed to punish transgressions. Assault, murder, rape, theft, etc. This is the basis for the laws that we have on the books that govern our lives. They're designed to punish acts that we commit against one another.

What negative act does someone crossing the border have on others? None. Not unless you think competition is a negative act. We tend to like competition as a nation. We support our sports leagues with hundreds of billions of dollars every year. We shop around when we go to the store in order to find the best deal. We have laws on the books against collusion between businesses, and price gouging. Yet you somehow feel that competition is not in the best interest of the nation when it comes to the labor market.

I'm a Ma resident who am among many who have wanted this all along. On the Cape I work with guys who come from Brazil and after working for a few years in restaurants they then open up their own landscaping business. They have no insurance for their business and under bid everyone by bringing in family/friends to work for them cheap. Some of these guys are my friends and most are illegal. Though the guys they under bid are my friends and customers at the bar..

Yes to a degree, laws established for ALL business's to follow.

No, the laws should reflect that ALL business's can only hire citizens and legal immigrants who are going to pay taxes.

I am ok with paying whatever the market will bare. If things too expensive that people will not eat out, prices will come down....naturally.

Nope, but if everyone hires the same LEGAL workers, then everyone is faced with the same expenses. Also, it is not my problem if farmers decide to sell out, and retire.

My first job was working in a fast food joint in HS, and I made minimum wage. Which is where all of those jobs should go anyway....HS kids, not 40 year olds.

If ALL business's were required to hire tax paying citizens the wage would be set by that market. Companies would be forced to pay whatever it would take to get people to do it. I am sure we are not all gunna give up eating because the cost of food went up.

You are kinda missing the entire point.... IT IS ILLEGAL!!!!!

and to hire slave labor in place of paying wages that can put citizens to work and get the money flowing again instead of being sent home to Mexico, IS the solution.

I do think UNFAIR competition is a negative act....

What negative act does someone crossing a border have on others? None, unless they are going to unfairly compete for jobs, use our schools, use our hospitals, use our social services, commit crimes, NOT spend their earnings here but send them home to wherever home is.

As I said, come here legally and engage in FAIR competition with those that have to pay taxes.

No, the laws should reflect that ALL business's can only hire citizens and legal immigrants who are going to pay taxes.
Illegals pay taxes. They also receive far less per capita in services than other tax payers. They also can't get money back in the form of tax returns. They pay income tax, property tax, sales tax, excise taxes etc. Same as you and me. They just can't collect social security at age 65. So, they actually pay more in taxes as a percentage of their income than you or I.

I am ok with paying whatever the market will bare. If things too expensive that people will not eat out, prices will come down....naturally.
Nope, prices won't go down. Restaurants have low profit margins to begin with and the large portion of their prices comes from labor costs. High school kids aren't willing to work for minimum wage. Neither are any of the millions that are currently on unemployment. So, restaurants would be forced to raise their wages to attract labor, and that cost would get passed on to you.

Nope, but if everyone hires the same LEGAL workers, then everyone is faced with the same expenses. Also, it is not my problem if farmers decide to sell out, and retire.
Economies of scale. The only way small farmers can compete is by hiring cheap labor. They don't have the resources to go out and buy the giant combines that the large scale farmers can. In the end you'd raise food prices and put a lot of people out of work.

My first job was working in a fast food joint in HS, and I made minimum wage. Which is where all of those jobs should go anyway....HS kids, not 40 year olds.
That's nice. So was mine. Do you know why fast food joints are staffed by illegals now instead of high school kids? They show up to work every day. They don't bitch. And they don't feel that they are too good for the work. The same can not be said for teenagers.

If ALL business's were required to hire tax paying citizens the wage would be set by that market. Companies would be forced to pay whatever it would take to get people to do it. I am sure we are not all gunna give up eating because the cost of food went up.
Again, they all pay taxes. And no, you're not going to give up eating, but you sure will cry when food stamp payouts go up astronomically and more people are classified as living in poverty.

You really have no clue what you are proposing. To you it's just a black and white issue where illegals are bad because the law says so. Fuck the law. The law is not infallible, and in this case it is nothing more than protectionism and racism. Open the borders and force competition. Americans are better anyway right? They work harder. They're smarter. They're better looking. They have better hygiene. Isn't this your argument in every thread? Then why are you so terrified of competition?
