Could you have predicted that Garcia and Colon would pitch well this year? If they hadn't each had a resurgent season the Yankees wouldn't be in the playoffs today. They came into the season with no pitching, and they still have no pitching. The lineup is old.

See, I can go back in time and pick out predictions that failed too. Except yours was founded upon complete nonsense, mine was based on pure statistics. Nobody expected Shields to perform as well as he did, and Price did not perform as an ace should this year.

Except for one thing - Nova WAS comparable to Hellickson this year and will compete heavily with him for ROY, so nice try.

All I can say is that last night was the greatest night of regular season baseball I've seen since I've been alive.

Yanks intentionally lost to Tampa?  So that 7 run lead they gave up was all part of the plan?  Having a lot of their starters play in a meaningless game was part of their plan? Really?

Why even go 12 innings 4 hours and 54 minutes if you're trying to get in and get out?

And yet they won the AL East by a country mile. Go figure. Colon and Garcia were serviceable, and that was what mattered. Your "young" Mets lineup sure did some damage this year! Damage to the MLB's wallet

Yes, because they would clearly put Scott Proctor in when they were trying to win...

It was pretty obvious they weren't trying to win in order to manipulate who they would possibly face after the ALDS. By starting Betances, by constantly hitting players, etc. Anyone who was watching that game and tries to say the Yankees were actually trying to win was either 1) not watching or is 2) braindead.

I loved my huge red sox fan teachers' reaction this morning. I was like "How about that Jonathan Papelbon?" and he went on a rant about how Boston blew it.

Every time Jay has posted here, even going back to April, all I can see is the fat guy behind the computer squawking about how much he knows about statistics even though I just proved that three of his predictions were wrong. Even though he predicted the Yankees would come in 3rd. Those statistics really helped you, I see! Yes, nice job grabbing graphs now in hindsight, even though you said nothing about Shields prior to the season beginning.

I was not suggesting that a sox collapse wasn't needed. In fact, I've been hitting on their abysmal collapse for the last few days. You know, all the Sox had to do was win last night (and many other nights in Sept) and it could have been a direct heads up game for the wild card spot. IIRC they were within one strikeout of doing just that. The Rays needed to maintain mental toughness despite being down 7 runs early in the game. They knew what they had to do and did it.

Really, I don't understand why you are seemingly defensive about this. I mean, I didn't come across anyone last night saying "fuck the yankees". In fact I had a friend over to watch the game who is a huge yankees fan and she was just like "good for you, who are we playing next". It was an incredible night for baseball all together. If there was any haha in your face action going on it was directed at Carl Crawford.

Defensive? Dude, I was starting off saying that the Red Sox, who I absolutely despise, were tougher than the Rays, who I rooted for quite heavily when they played the Phillies in the WS. And it still holds true. Based on statistics alone - who certain paunchy posters here would tell you are errr'ting! - , I would rather the Yankees not be facing Ellsbury, AGon, Pedroia and Ortiz in the ALCS (should we make it here) as compared to the likes of Longoria, BJ Upton, Johnny Damon and others. And in terms of pitching, while Tampa's staff is still solid, Beckett is a total Yankee killer. I don't understand why you took it so personally.

And yes, with the news that the Yankees faked interest to drive up the price for the Sox to get Crawford, all you can do is laugh. The Curse of the Bambino was sleeping for a few years I guess.

Crawford scored a $142 million contract and the entire Rays payroll for the season was only $42 mil. Granted his contract was 7 years.. but still The fact that he dropped the ball that ended their season was hysterically tragic.
