Best fucking day of baseball. Everyone is going nuts.
Congrats Tampa. Hell of a comeback in the game and wild card race. Seems like 1978 all over again...in a way....so I'm told. I was 5. Licking our wounds and regroup for next year. Go Tigers!

The Rays will be ah-ful this year. You wanna talk about a pisspoor rotation? There you have one. They did nothing to recover from the loss of Garza. Shields is not a legit #2. Garza was.
The BoSox will be tough this year. While I don't think their offense has improved THAT much with the addition of Crawford, their entire pitching staff is just scary sans Papelbon, if last year's performance from him continues. They are as good as if not better pitching wise than the Phillies.

Oh, this one too. Comparing Hellickson and Nova. Too awesomePoseidon wrote:
If you view Hellickson as so promising, how can you not view Nova as similar? As for their offense, I don't expect much. Longoria is still a boss, but besides that who do they have? An aging Damon and an even older Ramirez? They'll be lucky to take 3rd. In a few years they'll be back on top, but this year I don't see anything other than missing the playoffs for them.Jay wrote:
Really? Jeremy Hellickson is better than Matt Garza any day of the week.
The Rays have the best rotation in baseball outside of Philadelphia and San Francisco.
David Price
James Shields (had a ridiculously awful bad-luck fueled season in 2010)
Wade Davis
Jeremy Hellickson
Jeff Niemann
That right there is easily the best rotation in the AL East. They lost Crawford, which will hurt a lot, but they have Desmond Jennings ready to step in and he's supposed to be the second coming. At first they lost Carlos Pena and his 35 HRs and .198 batting average. They're a good young team on the rise.

I was hoping for 2 one game playoffs tomorrow. But this drama is the next best thing.
Rays scrape into the playoffs on the last day only due to a collapsing Boston team and the fact that the Yankees pretty much intentionally lost to them, and Jay tries to shoot down a prediction from the beginning of the season that the Rays would only take 3rd place in the AL East. Which they came 1 day away from doing.
See, I can go back in time and pick out predictions that failed too. Except yours was founded upon complete nonsense, mine was based on pure statistics. Nobody expected Shields to perform as well as he did, and Price did not perform as an ace should this year.
Except for one thing - Nova WAS comparable to Hellickson this year and will compete heavily with him for ROY, so nice try.
All I can say is that last night was the greatest night of regular season baseball I've seen since I've been alive.

I gotta be honest with you man, the Yankees are already deep into the downward spiral of old age. I don't see them winning for quite a while. I'd be surprised if they finished better than 3rd this year and 4th next year.Poseidon wrote:
When Burnett's on his game he's a really solid #2. He had a lot of family problems last year which is what led a lot of NYY fans to believe was the reason for his pisspoor performance. Hughes is only going to get better, Nova has shown ridiculous promise, and Colon is just the 5th spot.Jay wrote:
That's a pretty godawful rotation man. 2/5 are quality.
Worst case scenario, they trade for a pitcher in July. They were just ranked the 5th best team in terms of organizational depth and prospects, so I don't think it'd blow up the farm if they traded ManBan or Montero. Just not both, ffs Cashman.
