A slump is just that. Boston is still the more offensively, defensively and pitching-ly(?!?!) better team. I'm much more terrified of what the Yankee bats can do against a rotation of Beckett, Lester and possibly Clay Buchholz over Hellickson, Shields and Price any day of the week. Boston has 2 MVP candidates on offense. A great pitching staff and have been in slumps like this. Look at how they played at the beginning of the year. They can easily heat back up and start owning again in the playoffs. I feel better on the inside playing Tampa because they don't have as much talent on offense.Kmar wrote:

I'd be more worried about the streaking team than the one that looks better on paper. Sox have the bats, that's for sure. Their pitching has been pretty lackluster thus far. Joe Maddon has built a true team. He's a Mike Soscia protege, I wouldn't sleep a team managed by him.
I don't really care what a team does entering the playoffs (see look I can use bold tags too), because the playoffs are an ENTIRELY different situation. And it's like that in EVERY sport. Well I just don't have confidence saying the Red Sox will be less dangerous than the Rays in the playoffs. At the beginning of the season everyone was B0-2TON and calling them choke artists then they proceeded to own the rest of the season up until September.Kmar wrote:

If we were in the yankees position I'd certainly rather play the Sox. We went 12-6 against them this year.

Your point is valid though. I'm not blinded by my fandom that I can't see that there have been many times where the Yankees have closed out the season in great fashion/played well the whole season and done nothing.

Philly did phenomenal to end last season too. Look where that ended them. That's two examples of teams just in the past three years who came into the playoffs hot and did nothing.
