why? i'll freely admit vernon hasn't lived up to his contract either. vernon wells playing shitty with a huge contract for the team I root for has no relevence to this, unless I were to argue that it wasn't a bad signing. try again.Poseidon wrote:

Halos making a push in the West. Plus Weaver was a nice guy and took a hometown discount. I smoked his weed one time when he was still at CSULB, which pretty much makes us brothers.
salary cap for sure. fuck the dh, take it out of baseball altogether. angels used to be the small market team that let them all get away. Also used to be the graveyard people like Cecil Fielder went to after their prime was done. i was really happy to see them lockup Jared Weaver, seeing as you know the BumSox and Yanks were going to go after him. It's always nice to see homegrown players stay when more money could be out there.CC-Marley wrote:
Every team has their bad signings. Look at the Sox. Lackey is well, Lackey. Crawford hasn't performed up to par. The list goes on over the years for all the teams that are buyers come August. It's nice though when your farm system produces some studs. Then again, the smaller market teams usually lose those studs when pay day comes. I'm all for a salary cap in MLB. Oh and put the DH in both leagues.
well you're saying both have underperformed relative to their contracts, yet your team has vernon wells in the top 5 contracts and he's... well, you knowKEN-JENNINGS wrote:

at least Tex is a constant 100 RBI - 30 HR guy and Sabathia is a proven ace and 20 game winner who is easily a top 5 pitcher. and both of whom were major components of the 2009 yankees WS team as well
of course burnett's contract sucks, every yankee fan knows that. but to say something stupid like the yankees "always get burned" from FA signings is the statement of a dumbass. or a jays fan. same thing really
but your observation about wells underperforming as to his contract isn't something i disagree with. "yet my team has..." isn't a counter argument.
you claimed they both have underperformed relative to their contracts, and when we look at people in the same territory as them in terms of contracts...
both of them are proven all stars and WS champs, and the comparable contracts to them have won absolutely nothing.
vernon wells has the second highest contract in the MLB and he's absolutely dreadful, tex and CC are the 3rd and 4th highest and they're among the best in their position and WS champs. it has everything to do with it.

but i don't disagree that vernon wells is overpaid and underperforms. bringing vernon wells into this discussion reinforces my point. so we both agree then? goodPoseidon wrote:

why do you keep insisting this is based on whether you disagree or agree with it or not? look at the players with the top contracts. of the 5, 3 are yankees. one is one of the greatest players in the past twenty years, one is an ace and 20 game winner, one is closing in on yet another 30 HR - 100 RBI season, and all 3 have a WS ring. if they're "underperforming relative to their contract", so is everyone else. it's a retarded statement to make
no there are plenty of players in the MLB that are overacheiving relative to their contracts. Jared Weaver is one of them.

Baseball is a lot fun to watch for me, whether it's on tv or at a ballgame.
I enjoy it more at the beginning of the season when it's still fresh and new after the hiatus. By the time July rolls around I'm pretty sick of watching it The season is too damn long.

No your team just sucks so there's no reason to watch towards the end of the season
But the season is too long. Cut by like 15-20 ganes
They do suck, but even when they do well I get bored during the second half of the season. It's hard to even get excited for the playoffs.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:
