I have 140 dollars in circuit city gift cards which is why i'm contemplating this. my rig is a amd 2600 xp, asus a7v8x, 1gb pc3200 corsair xms, ATI 9700 128mb agp video card. nothing is overclocked.

I was wondering if upgrading to a evga geforce 256mb 6200 or a ati radeon 9550 256mb agp card for 99 bucks would be worth the upgrade?

9550 canbe overclocked ALOT and can run on medium no probs with 2 gig of ram, if you could stretch of ranother gig too you would be laughing

tbh both would be downgrading.

your 9700 should stil be able to beat a 9550 or 6200 in games.

edit:
a 6200 and 9550 are both newer then a 9700 but the 9700 has more pipes and a wider memory bus.
Dont forget that many flavours of the 9550 and 6200 have a 64bit membus and all the amount of overclocking wont take that narrow bus away.

i bought it in like december of '02 for like 360 bucks on newegg. i haven't kept up with video card prices or technology so i didn't know if it would be worth it.

what about the x1300 like mentioned above or a 6600 le?

tbh i dont know how wel a 9700 performs in BF2 but acordign to most benchmarks a 9700 beats a 9600pro.
the 9550 and 6200 are both low end cards.

a 6600LE (a good one) would likely by on par witht he 9700 in most benches but id go with atleast an x800 or 6800 if u want to upgrade. everything below that would be only a minor upgrade.

ahhhhh...lookin for a agp card..

u may actually want to go with the above, 6800..

u may also want to consider overclocking as well perhaps, if you have appropriate cooling

the x1300 gets stomped by the better 6600 cards.

in alot of games the x1300 wil also be slower then his 9700.
the 6800 was high-end the last gen the x1300 is budget this gen.
usualy the current midrange card comes near the performence of the former generations high-end.

for a real upgrade get like i said a 6800, X800, X1600XT, or if u can get them cheap a 6600GT.

I would i highly recommend scratching the video card and going with another gig of ram. Anyone who has two gigs of ram can atest to the fact that it is probably the most important upgrade you do to make bf2 run faster and smoother. Just my opinion.

Also here is a link to pc 3200 memory at circuit city. I am just assuming that this is what your mobo takes. Pretty much the standard.

1 more gig of ram is like....70-100, depending on maker and whether it carries heatsync or not.

loads are 10 times faster.

isit 1 stick of 1Gb or 2 of 512MB,

if the later (2x512MB) upgrading can be hard asnot all Socket A motherboards like it if more then 2 slots are used.

its 2x512 pc3200, but this asus mobo only supports pc3200 in one slot so its really only clocking at pc2700 when i do more than one stick. i have at least one more slot left. will different brands matter? i have two corsair xms sticks in there now.

ok, good, corsair is byfar the best. go to newegg. i bought a gig for 75 dollars, unheatsynced, increased load time by 500%. first one in...ALWAYS.

6800 is definetely your best choice, if you can afford it. Really good card, i just upgraded from mine to a ATI 1900xt and still have it for sale, but its a PCI-E card.

Well you have 1 G of good stuff already so that's not bad. 2G is really that much better as 2x1G sticks, I wouldn't personally get another 2x512 stick to add to the ones you have...

The video card is a bottle neck but not that bad considering you probably playin on low.

All of those cards including the 6600's are starting to be dated... the question is do you want the best or just a very small upgrade.

Might want to consider saving that gift certificate for something else or maybe getting a X-fi card. Personally I'd spend that on a creative X-Fi extreme music sound card if I just wanted to blow it. I believe circut city has those for around 100 bucks when they are on sale.

i was thinking of getting a 1x1gb stick, since my 2x512 pc3200 are already downclocked to pc2700 because of the mobo.

i'll have to go ingame and check my video settings i can't recall off the top of my head.

whats special about the x-fi sound card? currently i just have a 3 piece speaker system and am more than happy with it. will the card benefit that or just a 5.1 setup?

meh i wouldnt buy a Xi-Fi.

main reason being the price tag and that fact that their PCI only.
so if ud one day upgrade to a new motehrboard/CPU there is a chance that ur new motherboard has no PCI slots.

and like i said there is a chance that 4x512MB wont run on ur motherboard.
