I hate the whole regen health crap. This isn't HALO. If you get shot a medic should heal you, if you get hit by a rocket or run over a mine an Engineer should repair you. That's why the classes exist in the first place.

202 pages of pissing and moaning, about an unfinished game that most of you haven't even played.

I'm willing to bet all alphas are shit.Roc18 wrote:

Yeah, insta-heal rather silly. Feels like the 1990s and Doom.DrunkFace wrote:
And health packs can not instant heal, you would have to pick one up then spend 1 second to heal every 20% hp yourself (or a medic can do it for you if they are close).
Heck, we've come all the way to have realistic weapon animations, reloading, etc., yet healing is still the instantaneous suck-the-medkit-up-with-your-asshole thing like 15 years ago.
I'd appreciate realistic healing animations, especially ones that take longer.
Here's a video of all the "healing" animations in Far Cry 2.
They only heal you up to the next 20% increment. For full health restoration you'd then also need to apply a morphine syrette into your veins.
Left 4 Dead is also a good example, where it takes several seconds to heal (yourself and others), complete with a percentage bar, while you also have peelz and adrenaline shots which you can quickly apply to yourself.
It isn't different than get hit by rocket, return to safety, get out and fix, get back in.Roc18 wrote:

fuck that shit
There's no danger if you do it properly either. I've done it probably 300+ times and only had my tank stolen like twice.
It would be cool if every soldier carried a field kit to heal themselves. That would be a nice excuse to add an awesome animation and restore maybe 30% health or something.

OFP used a system where everyone had a medkit. When you were shot significantly you'd start to bleed out. You could stop your own bleeding yourself or that of colleagues, but only a medic could bring you back to full health.
Yeah I remember that in Dragon Rising. It was an ok system. I just didn't like the lack of animations.

My point is that i'd rather get out and repair the armor than have the game make me even lazier by doing it for me.jord wrote:

Getting out and repairing is probably quicker anyway. I'm too lazy to wait 20 seconds before regen even starts. Not that it still isn't a stupid idea, of course.Roc18 wrote:

having to get out and haul ass to repair your tank adds a whole gameplay mechanic and element that is very important for the general balance of vehicle gameplay. knowing when to pull away from the rape when the heat was too great to find a quiet spot and repair your vehicle was an important part of engineer in bf2. it hardly takes great skill or any ability, but still, it's an important part of the gameplay. just driving around without being shot at and naturally regaining armor is bullshit. you have to take downtime to repair for fair balance.

Not sure if true...
Indeed. I also snatched a tank that way on more than one occasion, especially in BC2, because I often run around with C4 which requires me to get rather close.
There are often "Leftovers" in many game files. You can see models of weapons that were never implemented, or other features, etc. in many games. So this may have been a commo rose they started but never finished and decided to just use the Q system.

My expectations get lowered every-time i see it drag racing with MW series in speculative reviews.
I wish the two companies would quit the crap. They're not even the same thing.
Call of Duty is an infantry shooter and Battlefield is a large-map combined arms game.
Why are they both trying to be the same?

Money.... Battlefield was always a brutal and unfair game that was hard for most "gamers" to even play. It was fun but it wasn't nearly as accessible as the CoD series. CoD added unlocks and classes and shit after Battlefield. So now they're trying to meet them in the middle.-Sh1fty- wrote:

Is it true that vehicles automatically repair and infantry automatically heal? What the FUCK? What is the point of even having "medic" and "engineer" gadgets? Why not just throw out classes completely and have a "build your own" thing like CoD?
Still, we have yet to see aircraft in the multiplayer. Remains to be seen if this is a true BF game. Maybe they did the alpha on an infantry centric map just to get the feedback and balance it from the bottom up?
If the beta doesn't have a blackhawk I will lose all hope

If the Blackhawks don't have splash damage, I hope they have an insanely high ROF to compensate for it, otherwise it'll be impossible to hit anything.

Don't worry, I'm sure Battlefield 3: Vietnam will be completely new and original.Uzique wrote:

the only people comparing them are talking head game review speculators and each game's fervent playerbase.-Sh1fty- wrote:

The only thing that both are trying to do the same is appeal to the current fad of gritty pseudorealistic shooter games.
Yes. While playing alpha, the LAV regenerated very quickly (5-10s after coming out of fire). It was unstoppable if you had an engineer following behind you and repairing as you went along. However, the new system they have is much much better, where the vehicle will modularly break down rather than simply exploding at 0% when operating like it was 100% at say 10%. But infantry regeneration was stupid. Since the alpha was "non-hardcore mode" it took 4-5 well placed rounds to kill someone. If (like most people) your enemy was hiding behind a rock/cover and you happened to get 2-3 good shots to them, all they would do is go back into cover, heal, popup again. You'd have to do the same dance with them until you got lucky and killed them with a HS before they would have time to react. Even HS's took 2 to kill - I guess 1 through the superultramegacombat helmet, and 1 through the skull? They just need to get rid of the HC/Non-HC BC2 shit.Spearhead wrote:
