I want something a littler flatter and crisper. Overkill on the bass tends to make me think they just add a few extra watts to conceal poor definition.

If I'm honest I'm not 100% up to date on the Army stuff. From my understanding as an SSO you have to have a pilots license already, so that doing it that way you are guaranteed to be a pilot if you pass the selection/training, but of course you have to pay to get your licence before hand etc.KuSTaV wrote:
Oi LBJ.
Thinking of reapplying for pilot through the ADF, specifically army.
Not sure if I should go GSO (then of GSO through ADFA or Duntroon), or SSO.
My understanding that the difference between the two is that SSO is only there for ~7 years and receives less training, whereas GSO is there as an 'officer before pilot'.
Would you think ADFA is worth it for a pilot? Or just go straight to Duntroon as a GSO or SSO?
Might organise a YOU Session for friday next week.
IIRC if you go pilot via GSO you can do any degree. One of my mates is an Army GSO (Pilot) and is doing a business degree. My first year divisional officer was an army pilot (Chinook - did tours of Afghanistan and Timor) and he did an arts degree at ADFA, and wasn't even signed up to be a pilot until they offered it to him at the end of Duntroon.KuSTaV wrote:
I've read on the defencejobs website that SSO doesnt require prior flying experience, but it does help to have a CPL only to waiver some other requirement.
Yeah I've heard that about going GSO, but I've also heard that they'll sometimes offer an aviation cadetship to army candidates prior to entering RMC which does confirm them a spot on pilots course. Not sure what the requirements are for that but it does seem like another way to get in.
I have considered RAAF and the RAN, but have had a special interest for army helicopters. However if what you say is correct in that the job offer is there after training then I would consider it... might have to bring it up at the YOU session.
The whole ADFA thing does seem like a way to settle into military life, but I think the thing was (as an army pilot) was that there was only one degree available to study, and I am not exactly sure of the relevance and use of a B.Tech (aviation) is (apart from a greater allowance, or so I've read).
Might call up tomorrow and book it in. I've also downloaded a few of those aptitude testing booklet things just to get a bit of familiarity to it all. Would you recommend anything else that would help in the process?
I (temporarily) worked with someone who knew someone who was an ARA pilot, but I think contacting him might be a bit difficult as he was made out to be pretty busy... I heard he started his own business, and was also employed in the ARA at the same time, which I guess would make him a bit difficult to speak to, let alone the networking link is relatively weak.
Oh right. I went to some ADFA info session and they said only one degree was available to army GSO pilots.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:

As for the process there isn't really anything you need to do to prepare for your YOU session (unless you want to practise some maths/IQ type tests) but for the assessment day/OSB definitely read up on your job etc, I can give you more help on that later on if you need it.
One point i'd make is that the chances are that if you apply now they will tell you to go to ADFA anyway. Unless someone has already done uni/ worked in the field (eg pilot) for a few years, they will generally direct you towards ADFA. It is quite rare for a ~18-19 year old (which I think you are?) to be allowed in as a direct entry pilot or other specialised job.
It might be worth going on the Australian Army facebook and asking if there are any pilots on there. I did the same thing on the RAAF page and there were plenty of people on there willing to help.
